Why do pilots limit themselves?
I'm getting a steady stream of resumes with guys looking for a first officer position. I don't have first officers so unfortunately I guess I don't have a job for these type of guys. I'd recommend when you send out resumes just say you want a pilot position. Don't restrict yourself unless for some reason you actually don't want to be in command.
p.s
This isn't just from 200hr wonders but guys with 1000+ hours which is more than enough to run a ho around on your own predominantly VFR.

Hi Dust,
Would 2800 hrs be enough to work for you? Do you have an email address I can send my resume to?
Iwill

Re: Why do pilots limit themselves?
lol no kidding.
Sorry guys and this is to everyone including the PM's We are currently not hiring at the moment. I just wanted to mention not to limit yourself by applying only for a first officer position. I do review resumes all the time and would welcome them to continue to flow however I don't see us hiring any time soon. I have a pretty good group of pilots with me at the moment and don't anticipate any significant turnover any time soon. I do date and keep resumes on file and usually clear them out every three months or so.
Those of you looking for work who are currently unemployed just keep your chin up. I think you will see things start to turn around for you.

Hey DustDevil,
as one of those pilots who would do such a thing, I've been told by some CPs that it pays to be specific...but I suppose everyone has their own taste right?

By all means if you specifically want to be a first officer then have atterRandleman wrote:Hey DustDevil,

Re: Why do pilots limit themselves?
If you're applying to a company for an FO position, when the company only flys single pilot, what kind of message does that send to the company. Obviously you haven't taken the time to learn about the company or the type of flying they do, so why would they consider you for a position? As it was stated earlier in the thread, be specific on what you're after, but if you insist on the 75 form letters and resume's in the mail then "flight crew position" seems to cover all your bases.
Re: Why do pilots limit themselves?
I was told by another CP (won't name the company) that he likes it when people specify exactly like that, so I guess it's just a matter of personal opinions. (And on a side note, I don't have enough hours to apply as PIC for very many jobs yet anywayDust Devil wrote:By all means if you specifically want to be a first officer then have atterRandleman wrote:Hey DustDevil,

Re: Why do pilots limit themselves?
In my application for Westjet I was advised by friends who work there that I should apply for a captain's position. Of course I would be hired as a first officer. That is a given. But the point is that Westjet doesn't hire f.o.'s. They hire future captains.
