"F U YVR"

Post by TA/RA »

I just noticed yesterday that there is a house about 2 miles final for 26R on the left side that has " F U YVR" plastered across its roof in big yellow letters, just checked google maps and couldn't find it. Anyone else seen this

Yeesh!

This is probably one of the people who got a smoking deal on real estate right before 08L-26R opened...

I used to want to live in Burkeville just so I could hear and smell those JT8Ds screaming in on final for 26L...

I've seen it. It's been there for quite some time now. It makes me chuckle each time I fly over it...

I never understood how people can move to south van or Richmond right under the approaches of an airport that has been on its current land for decades and then complain about airplane noise and expect the airport to alter its operations or even move. what a crock. We need Conair to fly past that house first with the bird dog and yell FU A$$ H0LE on the loud speaker followed by a DC6 to drop a load of Red Retardant to suppress this retard.

^+1 It's the same old story every year. Houses close to the airport are sold during winter (slow flying season) and the home buyers think that the sound isn't that bad because the airport isn't busy. Then the summer comes (high season) and with it all of the noise complaints. There is no excuse to not understand what you're getting yourself into when buying a house in Richmond. That airport is busy year round. Ignorance I guess

I always have wondered if this goof ever complains about his other "neighbours", namely the Oak Street Bridge, Bridgeport Road, the loading dock of the Michael's craft store, the Tim Horton's next to Michael's, the railway spurline just a few yards north of him, or the tugboats that ply the Fraser River. Must the the electromagnetic field from the power lines messing with his tinfoil hat.
How about the guy north of him and his yard impersonating a Surrey house?

I've gotten lots of noise complaints even on my days off when the plane is parked, therefore I have choose to spend more of my flight time over the complainers homes. After all, if I gotta make the noise might as well do it over my enemies right?

I think what you are getting at is:

years back did a 360 over Richmond center at 500' in a large turboprop, asked the same thing the next day, with a "please climb to 1000' as an afterthought

1) Don't live near the A/P if you don't like noise
2) Paint costs time and money.
3) Why are you not complaining about the Thruway making noise 24hrs a day?
4) Maybe he's banned from YVR
5) People might land on his roof
6) Green paint makes an environmental claim.

A while ago students of a college program used a driveway to paint what looked like a runway on the driveway of that house. It has since been removed by order of TC. There's just no fun anymore! :(

This reminds me of the ongoing battle against the airlines in Victoria Harbour by the denizens along the north bank of the outer harbour. I used to sit there in Beta for a little longer than necessary, bathing them in the sweet aroma of oxidized kerosene before taking off southbound. I figured the only people who would deliberately buy a condo next to a body of water that has been used by seaplanes for almost a hundred years must really like the sight and smell of them.

Around our glider club, there's a fancy new house that was built right next to our takeoff path. There is a noise sensitive area directly North that we have to turn to avoid; so, the towplane prop arc catches this particular house.

The builder of course sold this house in the Winter to the current complainer.

There is another cluster of complainers a couple miles away who object to the noise, but we're at least fifteen hundred feet up by the time we're anywhere near them -- and that is not very often. They got a TC inspector to come out on a weekend to observe who later came over to the field
and didn't tell us to change anything.

Most rural folks are live and let live types. The complainers are generally city folks who buy a country estate in a working rural landscape complete with pig farms, manure spreaders and machinery.
