Markham Flight Training

Post by wings905 »

I'm interested in getting pilots licence, but reading another forum I'm wondering where to go. I live in Unionville so Buttonville makes sense, but now since it is closing I was thinking Markham?????

Can anyone tell me what would happen if I start at Buttonville and then it closes?

Well Buttonville won't close for years yet, so you can definitely get your training there. That isn't a factor in your choice.

What other factors should I be considering?

In the "Buttonville Airport . . . CYKZ" forum someone is posting Toronto Airways will close in a year, is that true?

Rumours likely, get used to it.

You can always start your training there and move to another school.

I guess you're talking about Canadian Flyers Incorporated since their website says they are at Buttonville, Markham, and the Island Airport, but I don't see Oshawa on their list?

http://www.canadianflyers.com/contactus.asp

I'll sign-up with them since if they close the Buttonville campus I'll just go to Markham, and if Markham closes I'll continue at the Island.

Let me know what you think and thanks for your input.

I've done mine with Canadian Flyers at the airport, and can't recommend them enough, they've been great.

It really doesn't matter where you go. These flight schools are all governed by TC. If a school closes, all you do is take YOUR PTR and bring it to another school to continue your training.
I wouldn't pay anything up front, especially if you think it might not be able to stay in business.

I live in Richmond Hill and I've been to both schools.

I would say Toronto Airways, located only in Buttonvile is a good, professional school but relatively costly by a couple thousand (strict syllabus). On the other hand Canadian Flyers has two locations in Markham, and City Centre, NOT in buttonvile. (the owner, and CFI of Canadian Flyers has a charter service out of Buttonville though........correct me if I am wrong) It is more like a friendly, relaxed type of school compared to Toronto Airways but cheaper rates and more flexibilities with instructors. The only concern though is not all instructors in Canadian Flyers are available for multiple loctions. They prefer to work at one designated location. (means you can't really do your training at both locations unless your instructor doesnt mind coming over at two different locations)

I recommend you step in both schools to see different atmospheres and go for what you like.
remember you are a customer and they are the training provider. dont be afraid to go in and ask Qs.

Hi,

I was just curious how everything worked with finding a flight school. Did you end up doing your training at Canadian Flyers or Toronto Airways?

Thanks,

J
