I saw a movie years and years ago, I can barely remember it, but it was about a dork who figured Canada's airforce would be better off with thousands of little ultralight planes instead of really expensive real planes, so he set about designing one, and he called it the "Canadian Defender", and of course he failed to even get it airborne... Does anyone remember that one? Was it called "Canadian Defender"?

If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself

Is that the one where he does his wind tunnel testing on the back of a pickup truck?
That was Bob Demert of Carmen, Manitoba. For all his weird ideas (steam-powered car was the last one I saw), he is/was quite a guy; built mostly from plans the only Zero flying with the original motor, and flew his own Hurricane in the movie "Battle of Britain."
To add to the list: The Bridges at Toko-Ri, from the book by James Mitchener. Best story ever about strike aviation. Also, a really lousy Larry Hagman movie, "Deadly Encouter." Absolute crap story, but fabulous flying scenes with a Hughes 500 and Gazelles.
One more, the original "Iron Eagle," but only for the scene between the dirt bike and Art Scholl in the C-150.
Siddley Hawker wrote:High And The Mighty is the better of the two, in my opinion. It's the story of a DC-4 that sheds a propeller on a flight from HNL to SFO. Excellent movie. There is a wonderful scene of a 1950's version of CRM between John Wayne and Robert Stack, who plays the Captain.
How bout that famous airplane we all know and love "The Arrow" the made for TV movie with Dan Aykroyd. I liked it.
I also like "The Battle of Britan." Someone mentioned "The Blue Max", that was good. What about "Fly Boys" I liked the flying scenes with the old Fokkers and Nieports. Would of loved to of flown in those days.
Movie I hate, "Flightplan" with Jodie Foster. Has nothing to do with running a flight plan. WTF????

Kowalski: Sir, we may be out of fuel.
Skipper: What makes you think that?
Kowalski: We've lost engine one, and engine two is no longer on fire.
Birds of Prey - A Big helicopter chase movie starring David Janssen of the 60’s show “The Fugitive” Loved this – saw it as a teen and wanted to take Helicopter lessons. Good luck finding a copy, lol http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069787/
Six days and Seven Nights... Just because its one of the few that the wife will watch with me.
And not mentioned yet.
High Road to China. Another mediocre performance by Tom, but hey... Nice scenery, pretty lady, and 'classic' warbirds. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085678/)
There have been some great flying movies mentioned for sure but for the stick and rudder guys its really hard to beat the flying in The Great Waldo Pepper..done well before all the computer enhancements.
Out of Africa - The flying scenes in the Rift Valley are my idea of "pure" aviation. Its also of special significance to me as my grandfather and Denys Finch-Hatton were friends.
Yes "six days seven nights" was a good movie, loved the makeshift floats on the beaver at the end.
Recently I just watched "The Red Baron" its similar to "Flyboys" but of course from the German perspective and its about the famous German ace Baron Manfred von Richthofen
