The email I got from AC said that walk ins, and referalls will no longer be required.
Some of these posts on this thread are ridiculous. Do some of you really think that a 1000 hr civilian pilot is going to get hired by AC? Perhaps a 1000 hr air force pilot (not that I agree with that). AC has absolutly no problem finding pilots with 3000-5000+ hours. Please think about all the 703, 704 and 705 companies in this country and all the captains they have. I bet 75% have there resume in at AC.

BTD: under the pilot req's on the website, it now says 1000 hrs. see this link: http://www.aircanada.com/en/about/career/pilots.html
Bede, yes you are right that they have no problem getting 3-5000+ hour pilots. I get the impression that they now want to hire from a larger range of experience levels in order to mix up their pilot demographic.it's not always about getting the guys with the highest time. i agree, though, actual chances as a 1200 hour pilot will be slim. maybe in a year or 2, though, who knows.

The last course in 2002, the average would have been about 5000 hrs and about 34 yrs. Those that were in the pool in 2001 would have more than that now, being it was 4 years ago. Sorry, but not a chance of a 1000 hr let alone 2000 hr candidate being considered, but some that are building 800-1000 hours per year, it can add up quickly. I doesn't hurt to have your name on file.
It is interesting that the requirement on the AC site would drop by that much in such a short period of time though.
Talking around the office, AC managers say that AC does want a broad cross section, whatever that means in PC talk. They mention too that the higher time is not necessarily going to count for a straight line weighting of points, so a 10,000 hour pilot is not 10x more point qualified that the 1,000 pilot for example.
As I posted before, the comments from a number of sources indicate that while the TT requirement is low (lower now!), there is no requirement for an ATPL, nor university, it is highly unlikely that you will be hired without some combination of either military time or turbine/jet higher time, &/or university, &/or ATP, etc --- or maybe some affirmative action campaign that AC may have in mind, is a possibility also I suppose. Hey, they make the rules, they can hire who they want! You won't get the job at all if you don't apply. You can always say "no thanks".

When I was hired they asked us to bring Transcripts. That was 10 years ago, not sure now as the entire process has been outsourced.Snowking wrote:For hiring at AC are marks for high school and post secondary looked at very closely? Do they also take into account what type of degree or classes that a person took. ie. basket weaving as opposed to physics?
I don't know. If you get "the call", ask your questions then. Until that point, get your homework done on getting that info together. I can't answer either, because the process now is a whole new deal with the outside agency handling the initial screening, plus almost three decades since I was hired at AC.Snowking wrote:For hiring at AC are marks for high school and post secondary looked at very closely? I do know that they will be checking your references, since AC has been burned in the past. If you do use an AC pilot's name, or as a reference they will call that person. I would say that it is fair ball to polish up your cv, and make it look as attractive as possible, but don't lie or embellish.
