aircraft works and their $5000 signing bonus
What's the deal there? Is it that bad that they have to put up a signing bonus to get people?
Anyone that works there care to elaborate on the mood there right now? On paper it looks pretty good.

.....must not be working; they seem to re-post the ad every other day.
Re: aircraft works and their $5000 signing bonus
How do you know they've found what they're looking for and even if they've made any offers?
We've sometimes looked for months for the right person. Just because you put an add up doesn't mean you have to hire whoever applies.
It's a small team and I'm sure they're looking to avoid any poison...

Sounds like desperation to me.

So back to the original post;

So few facts????????? How many "engineers" have quit in the past 12 months and how many have been hired? Don't try to dodge that one............ When a company offers a bonus, and posts the same posting everyday there is a reason. RED FLAG.

Have to agree.
City as big as Calgary and they can't, or are having difficulty, finding a suitable candidate? Somethings off.
Either the offer is totally legit, and there is absolutely no one suitable in YYC, or its a bait and switch to get people to apply.
I'd like to believe its the first scenario, but experience is waving the flag.

Totally agree.
Think that would be fair to both parties, and maybe they are offering that, or not.
The problem I have seen in the past with deals like that is that they almost always favor the company in their terms unequivocally. The AME usually is signing over his ass, the company has all the angles.
Would be nice to see a trend of mutual understanding that both parties are trying one another out for a given time, and that the AME can have an option also.

The pool around YYC is drying up. Which is reflected in the wages being offered and hopefully it has some others reconsidering their wage strategy.

Re: aircraft works and their $5000 signing bonus
I'll throw my hat in the ring here, I know a lot of people employed there, and I was recruited to join their team. The only reason I did not sign the paper was because of a family concern in regards to poor timing to relocate....that is it. It is a company that I would love to work for, period and when the time is right, I would be ecstatic to hold a position there. The old DOM was dismissed, some high time AMEs crossed the ramp (I suspect one of them is posting in this thread), but the company is in transition.
They have a new DOM. Straight shooter with a very broad range of experience and honest to the core with no BS. He has a direction and a vision, and it is one that any AME worth his salt would be onboard with. This is not bush, or airline, it is corporate. With that comes a culture so either you get that or you don't. Attention to detail, pride in your work, and being part of a team are all required. They know what they are looking for, and are willing to pay to get it. Are they desperate, maybe, but that is interpretation. They want people who are corporate minded and share their vision, so perhaps they are desperate to find it but in my decade+ in the industry in Canada, it is a rare breed and they are waiting to find the right pieces to the puzzle and offering an incentive for that small group. Nice facility, nice equipment, good wage, good hours, and a signing bonus. The wages in YYC are climbing because everyone is searching, and while AMEs complain about employers and working conditions, you guys are willing to slam a company leading the charge to empower AMEs and treat them with appreciation without even researching the company offering what they are. There is nothing bad about what this organization is doing, in my opinion it is one of the better job offers in Canada right now.

Re: aircraft works and their $5000 signing bonus
thanks, tcas, that is very interesting/positive info.
I'll be the first to admit I was wrong, and wish them the best. I was trying my best not to outright bash them, but I was most definitely suspcious, based entirely on my experiences, and leaning negatively.
nice to be wrong, and I hope it continues.

That all sounds quite positive and it's great to hear.
Thanks for the input, I hope they find what they are looking for.

It's quite nice to see on the hiring section of their website that that actually lay out what they pay. Looks like a decent place to work.
