1600 ft grass runway SL
Gentlemen,
which a/c will be comfortably go to/out of 1600 ft grass rwy at sea level? Summer temps max 25-30 C. Max 6 person incl. pilot and fuel for return 100 nm. There`s no obstacles both ends, just rye. Heard rumour PC12 can do it, is it true?
cheers

A beaver would be able to do that on wheels one would presume. Will take a little longer than a PC-12 to do the 100 NM though

Islander. It is what they were built to do.

We pull 3000 lbs out of 600 feet with the DHC-6!
Re: 1600 ft grass runway SL
That definitely seems relevant to his stated mission requirementsWe pull 3000 lbs out of 600 feet with the DHC-6!

Re: 1600 ft grass runway SL
If the field has no obstacles a Cessna 206 can easy do 1600 feet with 6 up and fuel for 200 miles.
If you want a twin then I agree with TK, an islander would be ideal. A Twin Otter is huge overkill.

331 or Blackhawk Caravan, either a baby or a grand.

I'd go for a Cessna 207. It will carry what the 206 does but W&B is easier because you can put bags up front. It also has more room for bags if you only put 6 people in it.
Re: 1600 ft grass runway SL
Although I do agree that a 207 is a better choice for 6 people than a 206, they are real dogs when fully loaded on a hot day. The OP mentioned a PC12, so I would assume the budget is relatively high? I'm still going to stick with the 331-12 Baby van, no pod. Comfortable for 6 and bags, not quite as fast as the pc12, but will do an honest 190kts (true) at 10k on less fuel. As for the 1600' strip at SL and +25:Bede wrote:I'd go for a Cessna 207. It will carry what the 206 does but W&B is easier because you can put bags up front. At 8360lbs, SL, +30 the ground roll is 831' and 50' obstacle is 1388'
At 7000lbs same conditions, 485' and 922'
To take it to the extreme:
At 8360, at 6000', +40, the numbers are 1584' and 2882'. Might be a tad close, but shows that you have LOTS of play in conditions.
On top of performance, the Garrets are pretty bullet proof (much like the pratts), and you get the SRL and Torque Temp Limiter so (assuming all systems are working) you cannot exceed engine limitations. Finally, the cost is SUBSTANTIALLY less than that of a PC12 with less maintenance as it's not pressurized. If you want to go high, just throw the oxygen on.
Food for thought.

Re: 1600 ft grass runway SL
with six passengers as described an Islander would use about 1/2 the runway.
