Jobs in Africa....Well. Im in Tanzania, KP you know that. Other companies are Fugro in South Africa, Paul Hurst is the CP. I have his email if you like, nice guy to chat with. Also about Solenta, they have one of the best names in aviation in Africa. You fly out of the envelope, your out, you mess up paper work, your out. You also have to pay for your rating at that company, I personally know 2 pilots who work for them and they are VERY happy. The CP there is Paul Hansen....Im sure thats is his name. He is the guy I spoke with when I was last in Johannesburg. Also, Executive Turbine, they have TONNS of aircraft. All of them lease to UN in Sudan and surrounding countries. I see then every now and then in Mwanza and Kilimanjaro. Johann is the young CP there at ET he gave me no Bullshit and offered me a job when I had more time on a Caravan, I still keep in touch with him just to se how things are. All of the CPs I spoke with told me how courageous it is to come to Africa and meet, and alone they all said they would hire me on that! (Speaking of said companies).
Not all companies in Africa will bond you, With me at Coastal, I am having the time of my expat life! And so is everybody else around me. I came to Africa for one job...it didn't work out. I spoke the wrong language. I searched a bit more to compaies I had been on contact with did the big Africn road trip. Turned out at the end, I was getting fed up.
I came to Tanzania as my last stop. Turns out it was the best choice I had ever made. When I arrived I had a guy holding a sign "Welcome Captain *#*$&@&@&#" Then they took me to get some food showed me my own apartment, my driver was very nice and told me all about Dar Es Salaam, and he says, "Your one of us now" very welcoming! They company is sending me to Flight Safety for the G1000/Caravan, without any bond, i'm yet to see a contract.
SO just to recap,
SteynJ@westair.com.na, Johan Steyn is the CP at West Air Wing in Windhoek Namibia,
johann@xturbine.co.za Johann Minnaar is the CP at Executive Turbine in Lanseria South Africa
Paul Hurst
paul.hurst@solenta.com Well......you get where I am going with this. in South Africa as well.
Paul Hansen
phansen@fugroairborne.co.za Again in South Africa.
It is next IMPOSSIBLE for an expat to get to work in South Africa unless your working contract for companies like these. THere are many others, this is just a few I am rattling off, I got tons more so don't be afraid to ask. I did all my job searching while working for Buffalo Airways doing the 4 am Freighter to Hay River....Im sure Joe was wondering who was calling Africa and where all these Fax's were going. I don't mind helping cause I was a lost soul when I first started, but in the end you need to be in the country in front of the Cp and Directors to land that job.
In the end its still Africa and you gotta be patient and do the waiting game, ie, work permits, license validation, medical ect.
Cheers!
