Have you ever ridden an F-18? Unless it's single seat, clean(no tanks, FLIR etc) burners on, cold and diving you're not hitting mach 1.8JigglyBus wrote:Groundpilot,
You say that your top groundspeed is Mach 1.2 in your CF18.
A CF18 has a max true airspeed of Mach 1.7 - 1.8.
So, either you were on burners with a 250 knot head wind,
OR
You're a bs'er.
Ok, fair enough, I'll admit when I'm wrong.
I guess they probably are peacetime limitted. I obviously know very little about military flying, however, once you've past mach1, what is the difference peacetime wise between 1.2 and 1.6??
Also, on a side note. Everyone here is talking about high ground speeds, and you say Mach1.2. Is that really a ground speed?

All state the F/A-18 capable of mach 1.7-1.8 or greater, at level flight.
I do not fly the F/A-18, but I can read.

Groundspeed
I have seen 400 kts on the king Air 350 one day from HQM to MHR at FL310.
Best though was 212 kts in a Twotter (and this was on Whell/Skis) going to Pelly Bay. Of course, coming home was at about 95 kts....

I guess that I'm the designated bs caller on this thread, so I'll continue.
216kts in a Caravan... easy
239kts in a Seneca... possible at high altitude
230kts in a DiamondStar AT 1000'?? BS. Vno in a Da40 is 129, that would require a 100kt wind at 1000', if that actually happenned, the real accomplishment would be the landing, not the GS.
162kts on a Yahama R1. Really? Website I saw states max speed at 280kph, or 152kts. Even if you had it tricked out, what the F are you doing at 300kph on public roads?
Let me know where you live, so I can stay off the highway.

jigglybus,
easy, fine.
possible, fine.
What does Vno of 129 have to do with 230, and what does 1000' have to do with it...you can be at a higher alt and any speed under 250 kts under 10,000 in the Zone. And 230 GS isn't a great achievement as its not true....like SR71 said. Oh and for landing being the real accomplishment---try chopping the power and turning into the wind, funny how things slow down.
As for the 280kph, I was only telling you what the speedo reads.....sure there is some error as its a digital readout. As for what I was doing at that speed on public roads? Trying to keep up to a Busa on the 401 at 5am.
