Companies Requiring Permanent Residency
Hi All - new poster here - question about companies demanding Citizenship or Permanent Residency.
I am an airline ATPL just moved here with my Canadian wife (came back as we want our children to grow up in Canada) and I have given up my Airline job to move with her.
Just got my Open work permit approved and have already been offered an interview with one. I am now told their requirements are only Canadian Citizens and PR holders. My PR application is in process and apparently will take about 2 years. Does anyone know that means I can't work with the airline(and seemingly every other company that seems to have the same requirement)
This seems to void the point of an open work permit and will kill my currency if I can't work for two years until I get the PR approved.
I'm well aware of the animosity on the site towards foreigners coming here to work, but I come from a first world country and we moved here so my wife can be close to her family. I hope people keep that it mind instead of thinking just another foreigner...
many thanks - any advice appreciated!

Re: Companies Requiring Permanent Residency
Sounds like a shitty situation. If your in a bind though, Georgian will probably hire you as they have many pilots in a similar situation. Do your time there and move on.

Hey there,
Korean is looking for pilots that can be based in Canada (Major cities only). Maybe you can do that for a couple of years.
Also China Southern just placed an ad looking for Captains based in Vancouver (A330/B777).
Good luck!!

I don't think its a problem really but it really depends on if you can find or make some connections within the industry. You should definitely apply for GGN...It also depends on level of experience you have and what you were applying.
My suggestion... Apply to as many places as possible. You never know what could happen...The worse case scenario is you get a NO.
Best of luck
