NAFTA (Again)
There's a rumour, doing the rounds in Canada again, that pilots will be added to some sort of NAFTA list in the next year or so, essentially allowing us access to jobs south of the border.
I can't find any real info on this, though.
Does anyone here know anything about it, or know where to look to verify the information?
Thanks, in advance.

Link for the current professions covered for a TN Visa. Pilots not on it. It is a TEMPORARY visa! You may apply for right to work and live in the US while on this visa through a labor certification process. Not the easiest or fastest thing to accomplish. I researched this thoroughly and have worked with several immigration lawyers and have not had success and I do have family (Grandfather/Uncles) that are US Citizens. That being said everyones situation is different. Initial consultations with a lawyer can be quite reasonable. If you can make it work Delta would be one hell of a place to get on in the next year or so.
Cheers
Hozer,
PS. You would also need to convert to FAA ATPL if not already done so, thats a whole other topic!

Apparently Australian pilots are getting into the US on their equivalent of a TN visa.

Really wish the US and Canada could hammer out a Schengen-like agreement.

Why the woodie to go and work in the USA? Their regionals pay less than ours, and if you decide to come back you're going to be BOTL anyway.

Re: NAFTA (Again)
Let's get this straight , there are 42 professions covered under NAFTA and pilot is NOT one of them.
Moreover you need a "RELEVANT" DEGREE and certificates to work under the trade agreement.
There is no way to work with the airline as they are covered under a UNION which only permits Permanent residents and citizens to be employed.

And it will never be, the US has the strongest GA scene on earth with plenty of pilots coming up through the ranks, no need to import pilots.
Please, this is why the majority of television, music, aircraft, etc you have came from the US, this is why more people want to immigrate to the US than any other country.North Shore wrote:....

Also plenty of fatties in Canada, just go to a timmies, and as for firearms it's simply because Americans don't blindly trust their government to always do the right thing (had a couple wars over this stuff), nor do they foolishly believe the police will always save you.

Well, that's the limited, "I can't see the forest from the trees," view.
Why do Canadian pilots go to tiny, polluted, overcrowded sliver of land called Hong Kong? Or why do they end up going to a rough neighborhood with an uncertain future like the Middle East when we have it so good here in Canada?
The USA has and has always had the most robust and diversified aviation culture and industry in the World. The shear variety of opportunities are enough to attract the attention of many aviation professionals and enthusiasts.
