Where is Garth Wallace when you need him ..... btw, don't be fooled by his calm, nearly unconscious demeanour ... he's a wild man.

Is it just me, or does anyone else occasionlly read "Penisintheair" when they see "Peninsulair"? Must be some pretty serious Freudian stuff going on ....

So many great memories...

Lets see...walking in and getting treated like trash.

Listening to the BS from instructors who had no clue (not my own mind you, He was excellent and the only reason I stayed)

Getting jerked around for 2 1/2 months after clearing my sched so I could do my multi IFR quick.

I guess my fondest memory was never returning once I finally finished my rating.

Sure everyone has their own opinions of Peninsulair, myself included. But despite all the controversy I love instructing there. Sure there are employees that get on my nerves, but guess what, thats the aviation industry. There are the people that are so high and mighty they think they are Captain America, and the people that bitch and complain and make everyones life miserable until they get what they want, then guess what, they still complain.

Fact of the matter is Peninsulair has been around for 60 years, it has history in my family as well as many other peoples. There have been many commercial pilots that have trained and worked at Peninsulair and are now flying for major air carriers around the world or corporate charters.

As much as everyone bad mouths and hates the place it is the first aviation job for most people. It jump starts your carrier, slow at times but lets face it AC or FE ain't gonna hire you with a fresh CPL MEIFR. So i guess what i'm saying is that these steping stone jobs may suck at times, however they are necessary for a sucessful career in aviation.

I guess my most fond memory of Peninsulair would be getting my instructors rating and building my experience as a pilot, meeting new people and enjoying the long road to becoming a professional pilot.

Happy 60th Anniversary Penair, you are doing something right to have made it this far old girl.

Cheers to beers

See ya at the party, I'll be there

The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

Haz is my fondest memory. I will always remember flying into YHM at the tender age of 16 with an RPP and my mom along in the right seat. Haz gave us a ride over to the Warplane Museum and took superb care of us (insert yo momma jokes, and omit the word insert...thanks). It was enough to draw me back for a multi and multi-ifr a few years later. Every airport needs a quirky character to call its own, Haz is one of those guys. If you were hitting the beaches at Normandy or Dieppe, Haz is the guy you'd want fighting beside you.

Also,

Many instructors have come and gone through the ranks at Peninsulair, there were one or two duds, but the rest remain some of the best and most interesting people I know in aviation. Let's not forget how many of them of gone on to very successful and rewarding careers in aviation. This industry needs more Hazeseseses and Peninsulairs ;)

There, I said something nice. Now leave me alone.

I used to ramp rat there on Nord Air's 737's for Peninsula Air. It was a shit job as I recall. Took my multi IFR there on a Twin Comanche PA 30/39 and also used Martins link trainer. Martin was Dutch I believe and a pretty good instructor to boot.
Austin Airways used YHM for their heavy maintenance back then. One day I walked in and asked the receptionist if they had any work for pilots. She was using the teletype machine and was in contact with Austin's Chief Pilot at that very moment. Two days later I was in Timmins ON as a crew man on a DC3. It's been all up hill from then.

That is now, "instructor of the month" and is awarded to the instructor that leaves foam plugs in or leaves mags on etc. We do it tongue in cheek. It's a fun place to be!
