Just wondering if not having an IATRA would keep a pilot from being hired. Not very many companies list it as there minimum qualifications, except those that ask for ATPL or Commercial with IATRA. Should you definately get it or wait until you can apply for an ATPL. also how difficult is the IATRA to get?
Quick question......If you choose to write your ATPL exams before you have the required times can those be used to replace having to write the IATRA? is the validity of the ATPL's one or two years?

You have 24 months from the time you passed the exam to get your first two-crew type rating. After you have obtained a two-crew type rating you are good for life.
I wrote it twice over the 4 years after I dun gradj-ee-ated from college and never used the dang thing. Basically the jetstream operators are the only companies that put lower time pilots in the right seat of lagre turboprops. So if you are trying to get on with bar XH, Peace Air, or the like then you may as well buck up and write it.
The good thing is that there's only one version of the exam so it gets easier every time you write it.
I thought there was 2? I just wrote it about 2 weeks ago. I say it is worth it to write if your not doing the SAMRA SAMRON any time soon. It would suck to get passed over for a job because they have to wait for you to write it.
