Ankle surgery

Getting surgery to have ankle ligament reattached. Ankle is fine day to day, just cant do intense sports or activity like hockey or squash, my two favorite sports. Surgeon says 6 week recovery before i can fly. Do I need to report to TC? I'm hearing horror stories of TC taking several months to get back to a pilot to clear them after a concussion, so id rather not involve them as i literally can't afford that. Any tips? Thanks all!
