Well It Finally Happened! Yesterday I had my first solo! Pretty scary stuff at the moment, its amazing how differant an a/c performs with one less person! Thanks for all the help and advice! For everyone else who is training at the moment as well, this is an excellent place to learn, post questions, etc.

YAY! :D :D :D :D :partyman: :supz:

Well done! It ranks up there with the other big firsts in a persons life you’ll never forget it.

What do you think of the solo climb rate in your plane?

Cheers :partyman:

It climbs much better with just me in it :D lol, one thing I did really notice is that there is much better visability out the right hand side with out another person there to block the view!

Thanks!

Cheers

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

Free advice:

1) keep your eyes outside the cockpit.

2) learn to pull the power on downwind abeam the numbers, and land without having to touch the throttle.

3) learn to land in a crosswind, on only the upwind main tire.

4) learn about the weather. Become your own forecaster. Learn to read the maps, and the sky. After a while your forecast will disagree with the official one, and often you will be correct.

5) every flight out of the circuit, bring a map and a GPS with fresh batteries. You don't need to use both of them all the time but trust me, sooner or later you'll be very happy you brought them along.

HAVE FUN!

Thanks Guys! ISTP you were right.....I think I did well because I knew Goose was with me :D.

If anyone is interested (I doubt you guys are) i put a lengthy post about it on my blog.

I created my blog as a way to see what its like for people going through flight training in Canada, aswell as just to showcase some of my things. http://www.cfubc.blogspot.com

Thanks Again!

Congrats. A first solo is always good news.

Why only .2 though? I think on my first I went like an hour and a half or something. Couldn't get enough.

congratulations niss ;) Definately a wonderful feeling. You walk out of the flight school that day saying there is something i did that many don't even get to get near in any point in their lives. So it's a feeling prooving to you that you're the best in the world and that it was definately one of the best days in your life.

I've been there, probably the greatest feeling of all, and i feel for ya !

Good Job my man and keep it up 8)

When we send students solo for the first time it is only for one circuit. As to why NFI, I can only quess to keep the stress down and ease them into flying by themselves. We then extend the length of time each flight.

I keep my guys up somewhat longer. If the landings start looking bad I'll have the person come in. Otherwise I'll let them go at least a half dozen times. Students with their own a/c I will let go as long as they want. Luckily my CFI has no hard rules on this.

Heres a question what kind of traditions do you guys have? Cutting the shirt, baptising them with a bucket of water?
