Temporary 'Foreign' Pilots??

Post by JohnPork »

Carson Airs seems to be the first airline in Canada which seems to be requesting LMIA (wants to hire non Canadian pilots), I'm very sure they can find a Canadian pilot no problem. What a disgrace! This is the beginning of tons of pilot jobs in Canada which will get replaced by LMIA. NOT GOOD :x

do future Canadian pilots a favor and report the listing!

I don't think Carson was first. There was also WestJet Encore. Also some flight school in Gatineau requested an LMIA for instructors, Select Aviation. Tons of crop spraying companies have applied. A few helicopter operators as well.

It's not about money it's about strength and power.

They likely have found someone who is converting their licence or is here on an expiring visa. Likely through industry or employee connections. They would not do this without someone in mind already.

In general companies have to go through the motions of advertising the job and then say no one is qualified and then apply for LMIA.

Lots of diversity on the 401 lately. Nearly every truck crash is a flip flop driver with questionable credentials and experience. I hope aviation doesn’t go the route of trucking.

yes nearly every LMIA request is a scam to varying degrees. Some are outright fraud and some they want a particular employee chained to them for a year plus. In aviation it's a little different than the restaurant industry where verifiable skills are required but if they have already found someone, they are essentially going through the advertising motions to claim there is a labour shortage.

Wait until you find out what they're doing with doctors. Government is paying hospitals 100k each to hire foreign doctors while Canadian doctors who train abroad can't get a job in Canada because they're not bribing the hospitals 100k each. True story.

But why do we need to do it? Because we have a shortage. But why do we have a shortage? Because we're not hiring locally. But why not hire locally? Because there's a shortage. Repeat until you get offered MAID

Why did these doctors not train in Canada? Seems a no brainer that if you want to live and work in Canada that as a Canadian you’d get your training here.

I’m sorry but I don’t think that Canadians that went to Harvard or Johns Hopkins want to be a GP in Flin Flon.

They're training in countries like Australia, New Zealand, UK, etc. But yes they do want to work here, they have tracked the amount of applications. This government is actively working against doctors that can take their skills to other countries and get paid more. But this is all besides the point. The grand point I was making was how short sighted and wasteful our government is, and that I'm not surprised the terrible decision making has leaked into other departments.

There's so much stuff that is bad in this country, I feel like I can't just sit by while watching people (who have never swung a hammer in their life) run the show as they discuss hard work but have never done any. If aviation gets worse, I might have to run as an MP or something. I've just had it.

Anyways

Probably couldn't tick enough diversity boxes to get into a Canadian university.
Most likely all they had was a perfect GPA and aptitude. But since when is that important in higher education..........

My wife was in the position to hire doctors for a good number of years. I can say with absolute certainty, that is absolute bullshit.

But, hiring doctors is much like hiring pilots, there is a process, and the process includes interviews etc. We saw a number of those applying get cut at the interview stage for various reasons. And much like pilots, if the foreign doc doesn't have credentials valid in Canada, there is a process to go thru to gain accredation.

If you know somebody that didn't make the cut, they either pooched the interview, or they were unable to gain Canadian credentials. And if you dont know somebody in that situation, you are just spreading more of the typical bullshit we see more and more of on AvCan today.
