ATPL exam validity
if you write and pass the ATPL exams how long are they valid for if you haven't filled up the time requirements yet? indefinitely?
the CARS standards say "An applicant shall have obtained a minimum of 70% in each of three written examinations on the following aviation subjects:"
then they detail the SAMRA SARON and INRAT
http://www.tc.gc.ca/CivilAviation/Regse ... htm#421_34
for example: exams complete but need 50 more night hours. how long would you have to get the night time?

You have 24 moths (two years) from the date of the exam to apply (get the time and submit the completed paperwork to TC) for the licence. In the case of the ATPL you would need to count the 24 moths from the date of the first exam that you wrote.
400.03(1) Subject to subsection (3), tests, skill letters and examinations, including all sections of a sectionalized examination, that are required for the issuance of a permit or licence or for the endorsement of a permit or licence with a rating shall be completed during the 24-month period immediately preceding the date of the application for the permit, licence or rating.

If you obtain a new type rating within two years after writing, the exams will not expire. Key being that the exams must be written before the type rating so that rating would be based on your ATPL writtens as apposed to your IATRA. Went through this with transport a while ago so thought I would share it..
