How about foreigners for AC?
I hold a canadian ATPL and I am applying for Canadian residence, right now I have a nice job but I'd love to move to Canada. I have around 8k + hours on airliners. But I wouldn't like to dump my job before I get accepted into AC. How long does the process take after being interviewed/accepted until you are flying in the line? And how is it for foreigners? Is there a lot of landed immigrants flying for AC right now?
I applied last year but just received the kinda-automatic answer. I marked NO on the Are you entitled to work in Canada question for obvious reasons. Does anybody know of anyone being interviewed without landed immigrant status?
I hope somebody can help with this.
Cheers

2 ways to do it:
1-Get a Canadian company to sponsor you, they have to prove that they could not find a Canadian citizen or resident qualified. If they do you can work for them and apply for the residency...
However to obtain the resident status it works with a system of point, the Canadian embassy where you live will know about it...
2-Get married

Thanks guys, I am working on the embassy process, right now it may take about 2 years to get the visa I hope there's still movement then. On other side, how nice is being a new FO in AC? The company I work at has a very strong corporate culture and new FO's have some tough days, there's some bullying-mobbing. Basically being a FO is a rite of passage, nothing unbearable but unconfortable at times. Does it sound anything alike to AC? I hope not.
Is there a lot of immigrants (entitled to work but born outside CA) flying for AC? Is it any different for them? Or is it the same for all employees? You know a lot of countries are very sensitive about who flies their planes, some individuals dislike foreign born people to flying in their country.
Cheers

If you are a white, anglo male, you are at the bottom of the list for immigration to Canada and employment at AC.
Female helps. Visible minority helps. Foreigner helps, persecuted helps. Basically, we discriminate against our own in this country, not so much against others.
The above is from a cynical, white, anglo- Canadian male so very biased!
It is also e reflection of my overly dry sense of humour.
There is no hazing at Canadian airlines. If you pass the variety of tests, conduct yourself professionally, and fit the company culture you will do well. Good luck!

Well, it's funny, I checked the term visible minority, and it was considered racist by the UN this year. I am not white anglo, but I don't look very latin-american, I refrained from answering yes to visible minority. Now it seems I am part of the minority bunch. Hope that helps. This link is interesting.http://www40.statcan.ca/l01/cst01/demo50a.htm
LOL Phil, I think that is happening everywhere, laws in my country are similar, but even if enforced, discrimination and hazing at work are very common here. And I have to say that we are not as heterogeneous as Canada.
Cheers

i don t mean to be negative.
But I don t think AC will go through the hiring process with someone that does not meet the requirement.
Because they will not be able to hire you without your immigration status.
On paper it just does not make sense.
So get your papers..and then I am sure you will stand a good chance.
As far as having a hard time as an FO and pay your due, i would say no, it is not like your current company. Once in a while you will find a CA who will give you a hard time...??? but whatever..there are idiots everywhere..who like to be on power trip sometimes....but oh well, their wifes must be wearing the pants....
But all it matters is that some guys are nice...and love their job as much as you do.
So good luck with getting your papers..and be positive..it could take less than 2 yrs,as it is a point system...
Good Luck.

Thanks guys, it is a difficult decision to make. Some friends have the idea of going to the Middle East, and as far as I've been able to research it is not a bad idea but I prefer to stay in the continent. I've met several canadians over the years that live abroad mostly in Asia, is this very common or just a matter of chance?
Does anyone know the average entry age to AC? And how about upgrades? How long does it take to become a captain?
We have a N seniority system, you start as FO in the smaller plane and then onto the bigger planes then Capt of the smaller and so on.
Cheers

Traf and Loc,
if foreigners, meet the requirements, and are immigrants...then they deserve the job as much as you do.
grow up...Canada, would be nothing without immigrants, don t you forget that.
Nothing stops you from going to Asia..and get a job. So give me a break.
Canadian are the first one to go oversea with their type rating when they get laid off.
I am assuming you are joking right?
give the guy a break. You should show respect to the people who come here, learn the language and go through the loops...trust me it is a lot of work, and not everyone can do it.
So keep your racist comments.
thank you good night.
