Tell me something nice!

Post by MichaelP »

One of the things that is consistent on this forum is the moan factor.

This topic is an invitation for you to say something nice :D

"I really enjoy my job", "**** is a fantastic company to work for", "I am really glad I became a pilot because....". You get the drift.

Let's have some positive, fun, and happier feedback that reflects the rewards of our passion.

You're a Homo.

"Something Nice"??? an IceCream Sundae is "Nice"... people are not "Nice"...

If you come here to hear other people say "Nice" things to make you feel good then good luck Champ... most people here are aviation professionals working in a far from perfect industry.. some venting their frustration with "the system" others with particular "parts" of the system

BTW.. do you realise you were moaning when you said everybody here just moans?

In a way what you say here is a part of your psychological profile.

Very interesting deductions Floatman 8)

1. You're a Homo. :?: Sounds like a teenage statement to me!
2. people are not "Nice"... That's a sociopath's statement.
3. BTW.. do you realise you were moaning when you said everybody here just moans?

That's a statement. How do you construe that I'm 'moaning' from that?

I've probably been in this business longer than most, getting on for 34 years, and I am known to be 'professional' at what I do.
But I have a sense of humour too... You need one in this business.

I enjoy my job, and like everyone I wish I could earn a decent living at it, but I don't want to moan 8)
I have met many fine people in this business too.
I have seen a lot of Canada, the US, Europe, and some bits of Asia. It's been a fantastic experience, and it continues.
There are a lot of aeroplane types I haven't flown, yet...
It's something that keeps me learning, I don't know it all; there's always something more.
On balance, the positives of this business keep me in it.

I am very happy in my current job flying a King Air 350 in medevac ops, in the place where i choose to be, home every night....well, maybe not on night shifts....but I am home for brekkie and dinner every day. I'm not bitter, i have had a really good go in this industry, and have enjoyed every minute of it. If I had not surfed avcanada, I would not have known how bad most of the entry level part of this industry is.

My career thus far has been nothing but great experiences. Many have been fun, some have been less than fun, and the odd experience has been down right miserable. But, through all that, I have been able to see most parts of the world, other than Asia and Australia, and have had good paying jobs, with employers that treat me well. I never had to go through the bullshit of dealing with dodgey operators.

So there's your positive post. Me personally, i have no complaints. It's been a fun ride, and I look forward to what is on the horizon. I feel sorry for those folks that never left their home city and had to fly for the likes of re_jenci, or other similar operators. Let this be a lesson to newbies...get out there....go north, whatever. just go.

Karma comes full circle. Even in my darkest hour, I was in love with life. Everyday I get up and I'm happy to be alive and working. If I could export happiness, I would. :supz:

floatman! You're my hero. Keep up the good work. The more douchebags out there.. the better I look

Avcan shouldn't be a place to vent and piss each other off. It's a place to share stories, info, have a chuckle and help each other out all across the great country.

There are a TON of great people in this industry. The more fellow pilots, ame's, controllers etc that I meet.. the more I enjoy my career.

Now if only I could find my way back to the coast I'd be set

I love my job because......

1) A bad day in the cockpit is better than the best day in an office.
2) The Twin Otter is the most fun you can legally have in an airplane.
3) I get paid to go to places that other people pay to go to.
4) I get paid pretty good money to do the above.
5) I can't imagine doing anything else, even on the bad days.

Cheers,

ETTW

This is a bit of an unusual circumstance and not really what the original poster had asked for but it is very unusual yet very positive nonetheless.

Last year my son (also a pilot) PM'd an individual that used to post here. My son was seeking outside information from knowledgeable individuals on career direction (doesn't trust the old man). The fellow that responded agreed to meet us for coffee and we had a very interesting afternoon discussing my sons interests and career aspirations. It was more of an interview of sorts.

We went on to meet a few more times and the fellow rented a C-172, took us up and asked my son to fly a few circuits etc.

He then went on to recommend my son to industry contacts after which my son was offered employment flying a corporate aircraft although he only had float experience.

This fellow's only requests were that his efforts remain anonymous and that my son do the same for an aspiring youngster at some point. Apparently, someone had done the same for him early in his career.

I found it remarkable that that kind of individual still exists in this industry.

Although as humans, we all like to bicker to some degree, It isn't all bad.

I found it remarkable that that kind of individual still exists in this industry.
I believe that there are many people in this business like that, I know many myself.
We can all have a positive effect on others we meet...

Whereas my progress in this industry has been somewhat slow as viewed by others, there are people I meet from time to time who's faces are familiar but who's names often escape me, but all with a positive feedback from the time we met.

So what if I'm not flying an airliner for real money?, there are more than a few who believe I gave them their initial impulse... Captains of A340's and the like.
Then there's a doctor in training, enjoying his recreational flying, and one day he will afford his own aeroplane, equally happy for the candid suggestion as to the best course to the future.

So here's an idea, how about starting a list of the top ten aviation employers in Canada.
Instead of crying about those that are bad, celebrate the ones that are good.

Perhaps there should be a forum for posting positive stories to balance the nasty ones and cause the bad people to perhaps question why they are not getting such a positive review in the public domain.

Perhaps an annual reward for the best bosses would be an incentive for a happier industry.
A happier industry is a safer one.

I get to do all that. There probably aren't 10 polar bears in the Western Arctic, or Grizzlies in the North Yukon, that I haven't seen. If there's a place named Ik, Ak, Uk, Fort, or Lake, I've been there. Twice. I'm home most nights.

Been to both poles. Caught a Charr casting from the wing of the otter. Flew around the world in 8 days.

I've flown with maybe 200 keen co-pilots most of whom left us as captains to go to AC, WJ, Cathay. Only one of them was really a jerk. The rest were great.

Plus once a year, I get to lean over ETTW's shoulder with a clipboard and a big red pen and say, in whinny nasal voice, "You're doing that wrong. "

Ya.. yer my hero too Rowdy. Just doing my part to help you look good.

The Homo comment is in jest. The rest was in retort to someone pointing out that others are moaning. Some people need to moan here about things that need moaning about, and if they decide to moan, then maybe or maybe not there is a reason.

Whatever the case, when Mr. I've Posted 20 Times chimes in and decides to comment on the moaning, I decided to comment on his comment.

And Mike... thanks for the psychological assesment there champ. Very creative and artistic use of the emoticons, I think it says something about you, what I am not sure.

Glad to hear you are all warm and fuzzy about being an instructor and teaching doctors to fly and making shit money BUT not wanting to moan about it. Keep up the good work.

I have plenty of nice things to say... you and me can swap touching stories over some warm cocoa and biscuits.. whaddya say??

All good Rowdy.

And BTW... OMG!!! 34 years of instructing??? Don't you want to pop the door on that C150 @ 5000' and just step out???

Seriously.. the "moan factor" bit struck a chord with me. I am quite sure the poster is an honourable and decent man who just doesn't share my twisted sense of hummus. :partyman: Let's be friends MP :smt058

Definately one evening... But there are of course a couple of decent pubs in my vicinity, and then there's the Flying Beaver too.

As Rowdy is probably aware, I'm known for my tea as well... You bring the biscuits, Hobnobs are nice :D
