Airport Junkyard

Post by aaahaa »

Hey peeps.. Just as the subject says - So are there any airport junkyards in Canada? It would be cool to go check out some planes that have retired..

I remember when I was young that I went to Dubai and they had tons of commercial airlines lined up and some kids were playing around/with them.. It would be nice eh?

Tell me, tell me :)

There's plenty of scrapped hulks lying around Calgary Springbank (CYBW) and Edmonton Villeneuve (CZVL)

If you want something closer to Toronto, head over to Markham Airfield and check out the remains of Canada's Air Force (CT133s, F5s, F104s etc)

You could try Markham, from what I remember there were some F-104s, F-86s, etc... Pretty neat to look at.

A drive down Hwy 2 from Belleville to Trenton should reveal some vintage C-130's on the tarmac. If in Halifax go to the Shearwater aviation museum. Oh wait, that is an operational Sea King squadron!

there's a small strip on the west side of hwy 6 just north of clappison's corners. a couple of harvards and other rarities. 5-10 mins north west of hamilton. there's a set of power lines that cross at midfield.

its near the practice area for anyone who trained in burlington.

cheers

This guy FB owned one in CYTH... they all disappeared a few months after they were put into it, though. This was a little over 2 years back.

CFB Mountainview

Post by Mark_space »

As mentioned earlier, CFB Mountainview is the CF's "boneyard"...lots of CF-5's, Tutors, Clunks, etc, in various states of disassembly and storage.

If you are still interested, it is off Hwy 2 in Belleville onto Hwy 62 south for about 15 klicks...you can see the hangars and aircraft from the highway, or try your luck with the Commissionaire at the front gate...

You want to see some junkyard airplanes, just go to any small airport and look at the tie down area. Lots of junkers there. Some even fly once and a while. Look at the grass tie down area @ CYLW. Some real pathetic junkers there, parked among some real jewels.

The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

I know it's not in Canada but definitely one of the most extensive I have seen to date. Roswell NM, KROW NE of RWY 03/21

The guy advertises in Copa but I can't remember his name right now. I used to buy parts from him when I had a plane. If you get a chance to get in his barn, it's a pretty neat place to wander around.
He's a bit of a cranky old bastard as I recall.

It was Ken Gamble, he kicked the bucket a few years ago, but legend has it he carried a handgun around in case he caught any would-be airplane part theives! I heard someone else is now selling off all the junk....

I was thinking it was Ken something.
I was sort of doubting wether or not he would be alive. It was a number of years ago I dealt with him. Everytime I showed up at his place I was pretty nervous about being shot or eaten by dogs.
