F/O logging time as PIC

Post by Captain_Canuck »

Skippers;

This topic relates to PIC time for the ATPL.

According to a source at The Evil Empire (TC), the requirement for FO's logging PIC time as 1:1 as opopsed to 1/2:1 was supposed to have changed this summer and I see that it still has not happened. Or has it?

Does anyone have any current information on this subject?

I went in to TC at lunchtime today to check out the requirements for the ATPL. When I asked about TC changing this rule for FO time she mentioned that while ICAO has gone to 1:1, Transport still only counts co-pilot time as half and she hasnt heard about anything changing anytime soon.

Just processed my ATPL, and it's still 50%.

Thanks to the great people in the hamilton office for the speedy process. (2days vs. YWG 3-4 months)

The people in hamilton involved in the ATPL sign off were truly amazing. I've never dealt with any public servant who did their job as well as they did there.

Please tell me you are joking about the 3-4 months comment. I want to think its a joke, or exaggerated....but it wouldn't surprise me if it were true.

Someone said 3-4 months was bad - I had 6 months! Including many phone calls to bug them from the 2 month point.

Hey ..,

Vancouver was horrible when I did mine there back in '02. I think I waited almost five months!!! I would avoid it like the plague if I were you.

Just something to remmeber is that PIC under supervison counts as 1/2 also, but it can help with your PIC requirement for the ATPL (250hrs). The 1:1 thing is scarpped it wasn't the way ICAO ment the rule to be taken so TC is not going to give it that way.

Take extra trips in the mean time!

I'll second that - and I did it a few years ago now, nice to see they've kept the standards up.

The P.I.C. under supervision still only counts as half time. The purpose of the rule is to help obtain either the 250 pic requirement or the 25 hour night pic requirement. In the latter scenario it counts 1 for 1 to meet the requirement but still only half time toward a total pic requirement. Its a little confusing but its in the regs.

Hey:

Winnipeg was backed up this summer and it was just over 2 weeks for me to get my ATPL signed off. (Granted I had over 4000 hours, so I dont think they looked at it that hard).

She told me it was 6-8 weeks for a Commercial at that point, but they were trying to get ATPL's through in 3 - 4 weeks. She mentioned that ATPL licences were the highest priority as people usually had a job waiting on the issuance of the licence. Commercial licences took a backburner as there were not usually too many people with an ink still wet commercial with a job lined up.

You have to remember this was summer too, where people were on holidays etc. I have friends that have had their A's back in a week in the past.

Just wanted to pass on my experiences.

I cannot attest to the lines in ywg. The lady at the desk said it would be about 3-4 months. I was on my way to yyz later in the day, so I decided to go with Hamilton. But consider the size of Prairie Northern Region vs. Hamilton being one many offices in Ontario, I'd imagine thats where the issue lies.

I've gone through the Hamilton Office; Instructor renewals, lost medical, Private Licence, every time they've been fantastic. Best kept secret in TC.

Did mine through Toronto this summer (YQT TC sent it for me), and had my ATPL back in exactly one week from sending it. I was pleasantly surprised as I had heard rumours that Toronto TC was terrible to deal with.
