Re: C-FTBD
Sad to see that nice old machine seized.
What exactly do you want to know about it hydraulic fluid?
I flew it for two years for George ********* in 1966/67 and like all B18's on floats it was a great machine.

If someone tapped you on the shoulder five years ago and told you that one day you would making comments like that and knowing quite a bit about aviation and aviation safety, would you have believed them?

I've got 2.2 hours in TBD
It was owned by Eagle Aviation in 1992 and 1993 before going to Red Lake. We called it "The Big Dog".

Drinking lots of coffee lately, at a nice safe jungle desk, wishing I were flying......

What is a Beech 18?
A bunch of spare parts flying in close formation.
Having been a part of XUO and TBH I know how much fun and work the beech is. Enjoyed the link "linecrew" thanks,

Re: C-FTBD
From what I heard the plane sat last season and their pilot went to go fly the twotter for KB. If it is Dax Air's plane Calhome or Snoopy are the ones with all the answers.

It is. (and you want carholme or snoopy, calhome probably doesn't exist...)Flybaby wrote:From what I heard the plane sat last season and their pilot went to go fly the twotter for KB. If it is Dax Air's plane Calhome or Snoopy are the ones with all the answers.

Despite the looks of the picture, it fairly obvious from the thread that the engine problem can't really be laid at DaxAir's feet. The thread is a great read.

no sig because apparently quoting people in context is offensive to them.
Re: C-FTBD
Wasn't the twotter.. was the 99, they have since moved on in the industry.Flybaby wrote:From what I heard the plane sat last season and their pilot went to go fly the twotter for KB. If it is Dax Air's plane Carlhome or Snoopy are the ones with all the answers.
Sure is a nice and clean lookin Beech 18 too.

That's not surprising. Any twin that can't maintain altitude on one engine, has to be a pig in ice.Cat Driver wrote:Or the Wichita ice magnet.

Re: C-FTBD
Oh, my guess is the Beech 18 will maintain altitude on one engine on wheels. ( of course it depends on how high you are. )That's not surprising. Any twin that can't maintain altitude on one engine, has to be a pig in ice.
Here is a question to ponder.
Will a Beaver, Otter or any other single engine float plane fly as far after losing an engine as a Beech 18 on floats will?

Re: C-FTBD
NOPE.. I watched one do a long, shallow approach on one engine one day. INOP engine was feathered...
Re: C-FTBD
Not sure what is happening with the aircraft but Carholme who is the owner of Dax Air is going thru some serious medical issues and certainly has more on his plate to worry about these days than a Beechcraft.

-One R 1340 H1G; probably gonna fail sooner or later...
-One R 985; probably make it to TBO w/ out a catastrophic failure...
-Two R 985s; Well - your probably just got watered down a little, don't you think?
