C-5 Galaxy taking off with a faulty undercarriage Problem
C-5 Galaxy taking off with undercarriage retraction problems.
In that situation, they can probably get the gear back down OK. And if not, they can land on 3 main gear as long as they go easy on the sink rate. Both have happened before. The C-5 has a history of gear retraction failures, especially in the budget-strapped 1990s when gear components were being pushed to their repair limits and beyond. When the USAF was able to get new parts into the inventory in the 2001-2006 time frame, retraction failures dropped drastically, but they still happen from time to time. That landing gear is huge, has complex hydraulics and electrics all over it, and is more complex than many entire aircraft systems.

Fatal???? Did I miss something?
"The ability to ditch an airplane in the Hudson does not qualify a pilot for a pay raise. The ability to get the pilots, with this ability, to work for 30% or 40% pay cuts qualifies those in management for millions in bonuses."

Re: C-5 Galaxy taking off with a fatal undercarriage Problem
I'm guessing it was a typo and should have read "faulty" instead of fatal.
