Jetsgo
The Globe and Mail has an article today about the possible demise of Jetsgo. An airline analyst, Ben Cherniavsky, predicts the privately-held airline will fold sometime this year, calling Jetsgo "the weakest link" in the Canadian airline sector.
A report released by Mr. Cherniavsky also cites Westjet as the main beneficiary of Jetsgo's collapse, this is why Westjet's shares (WJA) were up a whopping 12.5% on Friday. Clearly, many think Westjet has good days ahead of it. AC stocks were also up 4%.
I always thought Jetsgo was taking too much risk by flying to about 30 cities when they've only been in the market for three years. I also don't see the wisdom of faithfully following the hub model, when they fly YHZ-YYZ-YUL and expect to compete with AC.
Is Jetsgo really in trouble ? Are people in Jetsgo (or Westjet) talking about this ?

The sky is falling I repeat the sky is falling. Do you believe , no well then where do you guys get this crap. One analyst says he doesn't like us and he's probably holding Westjet stock and you experts have us shutdown. Well I know a lot of very experienced guys and girls who aren't ready to lay down and die because some westjet wanna be says we suck.

Vickers Vanguard you are obviously not a fan of Jetsgo, but I commend your post.
I am starting to feel like a broken record but i will say it again!
Why are we allways cutting each other up? Why does it seem that most Pilots can't wait to see their competition go down the tubes?
I thaught we were all in this for the same reason!
A fellow pilot said it best. " I wish I could say I enjoy this career. A job I dreamed of growing up. But now that I'm in it I hate it for the way we as fellow pilots treat eachother and tarnish the industry from the inside out!!".

Paying $30,000 doesn't exactly help keep the industry un-tarnished.Rubberbiscuit wrote:Vickers Vanguard you are obviously not a fan of Jetsgo, but I commend your post.

hey, just a curiosity...not bashing anyone..
in your humble opinions, how much of the general non-flying public know about the 30g bond with JGo? did not see a mention in the above article...
i was trying to explain training bonds to a friend of mine and they were confused..i mentionned the 30g with JGo and they fell on their ass..."but i thought you already paid 30G to be a pilot" she said.
once again, not bashing, not judging, just asking.
fly safe.

Hmm I’m no fan of either JG or WJ but I smell a rat in the reporting of both the JG landing incident and the negative JG financial comments coming out of Calgary and New York.
The hedge funds and institutional investors are only interested in one thing, money and don’t think for a minute they wouldn’t manipulate the markets to make it happen. That’s what Clive was doing in NY, trying to manipulate his company’s share price by any means possible. The money people could give a flying damm about the working conditions, job security or pay scales of any airline; their only concern is the bottom line.
I see unionism on the horizon for the LCC’s.

To tell you all the truth we should all be pulloing for jetsgo because if they fail how many more pilots will be looking for work. I guess it is all the people who have never been within ten feet of an airplane and think they know it all are the people starting all the crap about Jetsgo. For me I hope they stay in because I don't want to wait another 5 years for a job.
i don't know where you're getting this from? from what i've seen here its the experienced guys that dislike jetsgopeeelot wrote:I guess it is all the people who have never been within ten feet of an airplane and think they know it all are the people starting all the crap about Jetsgo. Your right on that part "peelot", however "SCM" is right on this partpeeelot wrote:To tell you all the truth we should all be pulloing for jetsgo because if they fail how many more pilots will be looking for work.

There is a about 260 pilots at JG (don't quote me on this) and believe me the inexperienced guy does not want to be competing against these guys for the bigger better job. They will be sitting and sitting waiting till these guys are all re-employed again. It won't take 5 years, but it will take a couple. (do ya all remember C3...only 640 pilots)
It is the guy who is in the position and place he wants to be, and thinks he's secure in the job, that is threatened by JG. With JG going down, then maybe he can feel just a little more secure. Just like women ( or men ) and dating...the less compitition, the more the neanderthal feels secure.
So for all you young bucks, full of piss and vinager...pray they stay alive. For all you guys that hope they go down, careful what you wish for 'cause you probably will be sitting next to them, but hey...won't that just boost your ego and make you feel like you're the King of the pride.

That's the attitude! The longer all of the current airlines in Canada stay in business the faster everyone else will move up the ladder!
With the exeption of a few guys most of the pilots at Jetsgo either came with a bunch of jet time or have by now aquired 1000 - 2000hrs.
If Jetsgo went under it would only mean a longer lineup at all the other airlines for everyone trying to get a job. The fact of the matter is that as much as some of you might hate Jetsgo and or the bond I can guarantee you that the guys in charge of hireing at the other airlines won't give a rats ass about any of it. Who you know and experience is the deciding factors.
Who would be so sick as to wish anyone elses lives ruined anyway?
I am pretty sure there isn't any forums out there were doctors are in a frenzy over which hospital is going to shut down next!

I think that the point that was being made, and I agree, is that the article in the Post read like something out of a trashy tabloid. It was a little too sensational and not quite objective enough. I am certainly no advocate of jetsgo, but the media always has been and apparently continues to be irresponsible and way off the mark and when it comes to reporting in aviation.
Sadly, I don't think it is just in aviation that the media is irresponsible and inaccurate. I think that is the case in most everything. It is just that we have some knowledge of the industry and recognize the errors in aviation stories.gelbisch wrote:I think that the point that was being made, and I agree, is that the article in the Post read like something out of a trashy tabloid. It is all the other stories that I don't have such knowledge of that I wonder how much I see/read/hear is true.
As they say, the media never lets the truth get in the way of a good story!
