Needing 36 Hours PIC for ATPL

Post by DOVER »

Hello all, Just looking for advice or tips, or even job leads.
I need a few hours (36) as PIC to fullfill the Canadian ATPL licensing requirements. I'm currently flying with an Airline in 705 as an F/O, and only 50% of my flight time is creditded towards ATPL Total time requrements, and the aircraft that I currently fly doesn't allow me to act as PIC.
I'm trying to avoid paying to Rent an aircraft to build time, unless it was price was right of course. But it would cost me close to $5000 or more for those hours at a flight school.

If anyone has a suggestion it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks In Advance

This is nothing new. The best step is to buy a plane or a share in a plane. Fly off the hours and then sell.

Plus, plane ownership in my book looks good on a resume. It shows you understand what it truly costs to maintain a plane and possibly you'll be a bit more careful with the company equipment.

No unfortunately I don't have an Instructor rating...wish that I did at this point.
buying/sharing an A/C is an option, just would have to come up with some money up front...or use credit.
Thanks for those ideas, appreciated.

How about you pester you CP to start PIC under supervision. It is there for exactly this reason. Check your ops manual, it should all be in there if it's approved.

Find up your local gliding club and do some towing.

We have a Supervised PIC program at work. It gives me 100hrs. But after that I'd still need that 36hrs to have a total of 250 for ATPL.

The Glider towing Is probly a great Idea.

thanks again, your suggestions are greatly appreciated

You should be able to simply fly the 36 hours off with the company. Takes you 72 hours but so what - you will still acheive the goal, no? I don't think we are getting the entire picture. Maybe you are coming upon the expiry dates of your exams/rides?

there is a minimum pic time required supaflygrl, you can count the sic at 50% towards the total time of 1500 but you still need 250 pic no matter how much sic you have

Go to a meeting of your local RAA, COPA, EAA, or recreational airfield. Network with a few of the senior (aged experienced aircaft owners) that hardly fly anymore. And find a few to fly with. Ideally someone who's lost a medical, still owns an aircraft and isn't quite ready to retire there wings.
