ATPL Question
OK,
After asking many people (not the right people obviously), I have yet to get a clear answer on this info. The question is regarding subjects covered on the SARON vs. the SAMRA. I have gotten the standard replies and the TC study guide. I would like to know specifically where Human factors are queried and key points on the SARON anyone can think to advise me on. Before we start the usual suspect list of responses I'll show my cards. I have Pro IFR ATPL sup's, Aerocourse exam prep. FTGU, Fly the wing and the Turbine Pilot Guide. Of course the AIM and our freindly CAR's.
As there is a lot of material to cover I would like to focus on exam specific material. I chose to write the SARON first cant say why just ended up that way.
Thanks for any input

Re: ATPL Question
Done everythink in 1 week ,study and both exam.I have . atpl book and the question book.Read books 2 times take notes and did the practice exam,if you get 90 or more you are ready.Anyway you never gonna feel ready and it is normal.Anyway you only need 70% to pass.Worst case scenario you gonna fail ,but you're not the first one and it is not the end of the world.Take another rendez vous and there you go i garantie you with a good study you will pass easily...good luck.
Re: ATPL Question
The Saron is more straight forward than the Samra I found. I had this exact same question when I started studying and it seems that there are guidelines but nothing is set in stone. If you have the Aerocourse exam booklet you should be fine for the Saron. From what I know or believe it breaks down something like this;
Saron: Air Law, Flight Operations, Theory of Flight, Airframes, engines, props & aircraft systems, Navigation (general), Weight & Balance, Instruments
Samra: Human Factors, Met, Radio Aids & Flight Planning, Instruments, Navigation (general)
That is from looking at two study books and the useless study guide that Transport has. It is frustrating that no one seems to know what is on the exams for sure so you have to study some things twice. I found that on the Saron I had a couple of human factors questions and zero on the Samra. Also on the Samra I had zero radio aid navigation questions.
Things to make sure you know for the Samra; prognostic charts, INS, types of fog, thunderstorm avoidance procedures as well for my test there were a lot of questions on Jet streams.
Hope that helps, goodluck.

Re: ATPL Question
Thanks Guys,
Am I correct in the understanding that it's General nav on the SARON... ie nav aids, NAT tracks, frequencies including general knowledge of Flight levels, PNR CP, the understanding of Mach Etc...
and Flight planning on the SAMRA?
I guess the only safe bet is that the SARON does not deal with MET. "I shall double my efforts."
Thanks again. I will also post my findings as I write... To the best of my memory.

Re: ATPL Question
Some questions in the general nav portion of my book include; CP, PNR, VOR VOT test, density altitude, isogonal, effect of wind on CP & PNR, great circle, calculate TAS, one NM =...
I studied everything but the Met section (the only thing that was guaranteed not to be on) for the Saron then included Met for the Samra. Since you have the Aerocourse that is your best bet. Better to know it all for the Saron then just review for Samra.
Flight planning is on the Samra. Like I said I had no human factors or radio aids to navigation but about 8-10 jet stream questions.

Re: ATPL Question
I got 51 Met questions out of 80 on the SAMRA. Brutal if you don't like Met very much.
Re: ATPL Question
Hey Wow slipster, the exact same question/ PROBLEM Im having. Im guessing by now you've written and probably wont see this post but if you see this and have some answers or anyone else that would be great. Im trying to do the same thing, simply break it down so I can study/write one then study/ write the other. Thats what works for my life today. Im planning samra first. Studied met, but now am almost pulling out hair trying to get straight answers from all the books Ive got as to exactly what else will be on it. And half the stuff Ive got is conflicting and not in order! Im sure one TC thing I saw said w & b on samra. There's 3 subjetcs that are listed as being on both exams.
This is rediculous and the point is there's no need for it to be this way. It should be very clear cut from TC and all the schools/ seminars should be able to break it down as well and list it so. Its only when you're on your own after that it becomes apparent.
I like Ibre2009's way, study everything except met for saron- wish Id done that...

Re: ATPL Question
There were quiet a few questions straight out of the Air Command Wx Manual. I wouldn't bore yourself and read the whole thing, but the chapter summaries are very good, if you don't understand something in the summary then look it up. I would read up on fog, and thunderstorms, those were the two topics they seemed to have the most questions on...
Re: ATPL Question
Slipster, what is on the SARON and SAMRA is in there names, saRON = Regs., Operations and Navigation: saMRA = Met. and Radio Aids.
Concentrate on the Aerocourse workbook, the questions in it are nearly verbatim from the exams.
When studying the Aerocourse the chapters you want to study for the SARON are: Regulations, Navigation and Flight Planning, Performance and Weight and Balance, Flight Operations and Human Factors.
SAMRA are: Radio Aids and Flight Planning, Meteorology General, Meteorology Practical.
You will see that Radio aids and Flight Planning is one Chapter in the workbook, questions 1-86 (Radio Aids) are on the SAMRA and 87-114 (Navigation) are on the SARON.
If you PM me before Monday the 6th of July I can give you a list of what questions from the exam where in the Aerocourse book.
Good luck!
