I can't really help you with the pre-employment test unless you are refering to the medical - Pretty thorough there. As for the people, it depends on which operation you will be going to. There are two separate groups in YEG and they are, the line maintenance guys for the main line and then there are the "hanger" guys. The first are the guys that deal with Air Canada aircraft and the latter are the guys that deal with the Canadian North contract. For the most part I find that the whole group are pretty easy to get along with. As a new hire you would likely be assigned to the latter. Incidentally this is or will be what is known as Aveos, which is the division of Air Canada Technical Services that is in the process of being sold off. Currently I am working at the "hanger" and I find that it is a good place to work if you can see through the fear mongering that is going on in relation to the split. Its a relatively small shop and there is very little of the union BS that goes on in some of the bigger bases. As with all places there are those who like to work and those who don't. Right now because of the economics, the amount of work has slowed down some which has been a bit of a blessing because we were stretched pretty thin. We are expecting things to start to ramp up a bit later this year, so right now would be a good time to be coming in the door as you will have time to do the initial training and paper work courses. There is quite a bit of initial training at AC and it can be painfully slow. I don't want to scare you - just giving you a heads up.
hope some of this helps

Re: anybody know what's the preemployment test like in AC??
From what I can remember it is a basic english reading test, dont over think it. I'v seen smart guys fail it because they looked for trick questions.
Example question would be: there are 27 rows of seats on the l/h side of the aircraft and 26 rows of seats on the r/h side of aircraft. Refer to chart on page blahh blahhh and select how many rows on the l/h side of aircraft. Thats the kind of questions you can expect. Just want to see if you understand what you are reading. Hope that helps.

Be aware that as part of the pre-employment Medical, you will give a urine sample. This sample will be screened for various drugs. There have been many, many people who have lost a chance for employment because of this.

Hey. Do yourself a favour and don't eat a poppyseed bagel beforehand. You might also consider getting a physical done by your own physician beforehand. Good luck.

I had to do the Air Canada medical about 4 months ago. It was for a recall position and I had to do a medical as I had been off for more than 6 months. Not sure if it would be the same for a new hire. Anyway, It involved the following:
Hearing test
Vision test...which includes color blindness test and peripheral vision test
ECG exam
Urine test
Medical history questionaire
Lung capacity test
That's all I can remember...nothing too involved.

One of the best tests for mechanically ability is to take an AME to the ZOO with a bags of nuts to see if he can put a nut in a monkies mouth.
If he/she cannot put a nut in a monkies mouth, keep them away from the tools
