iPhone or iPod Touch apps for flight planning
Just wondering if anyone here has used an iPhone app for flight planning. I am looking at the app store and see two that look interesting: mye6b and flighttouch.
Both seem to fullfill the purposes of the e6b and then some. They are relatively cheap so the cost is not an issue. I am wondering about the time required to get up to speed using each app and then whether using the app is worthwhile.
Any comments will be appreciated.

I use Copilot, works great, even has GPS support!

Thanks. Took a look. Copilot seems to be a well developed app.

Use FlightTouch for my E6B and AeroWeather for my WX. I Like FlightTouch for the E6B functions as well as climb/descent planning. I does everything and more than the wheel, but much faster and easier to use. I have never taken full advantage of the leg navigation feature, as you have to input the Lat/Long for every waypoint. I found it faster and easier to do it with pencil a map and a ruler.
The W&B feature is my favorite though, once you set it up, you can do a W&B in about 10 seconds. I LOVE AeroWeather! Not only does it have all the NavCan WX stations, but you can get marine buoys, lighthouses, municipal wx stations.

Some people are like slinkies, they serve no purpose, other than to make you smile when you push them down the stairs.

The one that I use is Pilotwiz. One of the best features, is its able to grab metars and tafs automatically.
Really useful!!!

E6B / CX2 or an iPhone?????
as the numbers on my old and aging E6B are wearing off i was thinking of getting a CX2. but then knowing that there are probably a dozen iphone aps which does everything wondering if that would be acutually better than a clunky CX2? does anyone use their iphone / or have good aps that they use on regular basis for flight planning - or would it be best to stay traditional. any good aps that you would recommend ?
thanks!
thanks!

Before you drop money on a new pda/phone look into A-GPS vs Standalone GPS, you dont want a assisted unit (not sure about the new ones, but the old iphones need the network to get a fix).
Here is the software I have been using for almost 2 years now (even tried the good pepsi challenge holding it next to a G496!).

The 3g and 3gs have standalone gps but need network connectivity to download maps in google maps. As to the question of software I have copilot and mye6b. both work well but mye6b does seem to crash more often.SuperchargedRS wrote:Before you drop money on a new pda/phone look into A-GPS vs Standalone GPS, you dont want a assisted unit (not sure about the new ones, but the old iphones need the network to get a fix).
