Re: MJET Lay off in Montreal
Here's what I got from somebody within who left a few months ago.
They got onto too many projects at the same time, doing conversions of regional jets into business jets.
They have two ERJ135 that have been sitting in there half done for at least 6 months now.
With the financing crisis of last year, some of the prospective customers for the conversions couldn't put the money together creating a cascade effect.
Apparently though Elisen tech, the engineering firm that owns MJET is still operating but the MJET division has been idling.
Not even sure they still have AMEs working there for the time beeing.

Re: MJET Lay off in Montreal
this is bullshit here in quebec i tell you, there is no more work in aviation here, i just got laid off at exeltech after being there for 3 years along with 500 employees because the damn company just went bankrupt... I'm kinda screwed because i was off for the past year for a serious arm injury, but thankgod I am on Long term insurance, so they are still insuring me...i am supposed to be healed in 3 months but now the bloody company no longer exists..... i turned down an exellent position with cargojet in hamilton to work for exeltech, what a mistake that turned out to be.... but i no longer feel like returning to ontario, where there seems to be alot of work...... bombardier and bell textron have laid off i don't know how many, 800 each somewhere in those numbers.... i don't know what is going on here in quebec, but it isn't looking pretty... seems like theres work everywhere else in canada, i always hear about openings... im thinking of heading out west to the rockies.... i dont know what is happening with quebec?!?!?

quebec aviation companies and owners all have one thing in common, they open up shop, run it for a few years then flush it.
then they join Mikey White at his resort scheming another heist, and then history repeats itself.

State Department of Labor: all Empire Aero Employees will be laid off
By PAT BAILEY
Story Updated: Feb 11, 2010 at 5:41 PM EST
ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - According to a news release sent out by the New York State Department of Labor, all 203 employees of Empire Aero will be let go by May.
In a release from Empire Aero officials, the layoffs are the result of a bad economy and that depending on workload, the layoffs could come in stages. An effort is currently underway to try to find a buyer for the company, hoping a new owner would keep it open.
Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente, said efforts to find new work for Empire Aero have been underway for for months, including looking at military contracts. Picente said Empire Aero has both the staff and facility to expand their business in that direction.
"A lot of that work is getting done in the south right now which is backlogged," Picente said. "Some of it is getting done outside the U.S., which is crazy. It should be done here - especially with a New York company that's capable."
Even before the news of the layoffs, Picente said he was supposed to be in Washington, D.C. to talk to federal officials about Empire Aero handling military repairs. Most of those contracts are with companies in the south, and some are even oversees, Picente said.
Picente did not fly to Washington Thursday because his flight was canceled.
Last November, nearly 100 employees were laid off at Empire Aero Center and just last month even their president was let go. Earlier this week, the company filed a "warn notice."
A warn notice is a state and federal law that requires large companies to give their employees at least a 60-day notification that the company could be closing or that there could be mass layoffs.

For people who say that aviation in Québec are just bullshit. You just didn't choose the right company thats it thats all.
There are a lot of cie who are here to stay and i work for the cie who never never flush anybody in the last 5 years.
So as i say like everywhere else in the world, there are good company with maybe less money but at least you don't get laid off.

Hey Aviator Mech
Well I wouldn't jump on the "Rocky Mountain High" train too fast. There has been layoffs galore out here, Cascade, Air Canada, Avcorp they have all had massive layoffs over the last year or so. There are alot of unemployed AME's out here all fighting for what little is left. If I were you, I would bight the bullet and start looking in the praires, or if your still in Quebec look up Premier in Three Rivers, I hear there busy these days.
