Information on the 27 and DC10

Post by rgomes11 »

Hello everyone,

I have a job shadow starting on Monday, and I wanted to study up on general servicing on the 727 and DC10. Stuff like where are the hydraulic reservoirs located and where do you service them at. Simple stuff like that. If anyone has an idea of where I may find some of this stuff and can let me know that would be great, google is useless for this type of thing.

I really want to leave a good impression on this company.

Can't say too much about the DC 10, never worked on it.

IIRC (been a long while) all of the hydraulics for the 727 are serviced through the hydraulic service door under the left-hand aft wing to body fairing. This is also where the B-system electric pumps and the B/Standby system reservoir are located. The A system reservoir is in the tail cone as you go up the rear stairs on the L/H side with the Standby pump. The only servicing that goes on here I believe is putting head pressure into the A reservoir.

All I have time for now. Remember that the best thing is to show up willing to learn, not knowing everything.

yah you don't want to show up knowing thinking you know something. Just listen and follow the person showing you what to do. Ask questions if you don't know something they want you to do. If you have moments where you don't know what to do, pick up a broom and keep busy. Never let them see you standing around talking. Nothing to sweep? Well I've never seen a hangar that doesn't need a sweep, but aircraft jacks and equipment could always use a wipe.

The ultimate goal I imagine of this job shadow is for credit in school or possible employment after school? So just showing you listen and work hard is all that is needed. Don't go by what the other guys do. Never match your level of how hard you work to your co-workers. The management might not like what they do (standing around etc) and if they see you doing that will not hire you in fear you will be the same.

Think of the job shadow as an incredibly long interview. I did a co-op placement in highschool and when I went for a job after I chose somewhere else. Also gets you to see the faults in the company too.

Don't worry about it, if they want you to know they will show you, simple as that.. and if you are being shown then pay attention and never be afraid to ask a question because that means that you are interested.. when you get to work and have some spare moments look up servicing ATA chapter 12 in the respective maintenance manuals, they tell you everything you need to know and you would be surprised how many "experienced" guys have never done that..

Are you doing your job shadow in Kelowna or in Hamilton???? If it's in Kelowna you won't see a DC-10 and you probally won't touch a 727.....

DC-10 does fly east to west but via YYC and YVR not Kelowna. The Purolator 727 only comes to Kelowna on the weekends, its not here mid-week. Yes we have one 27 in for C-Check but YHM does the majority of the 727 work these days, we only see them in YLW if YHM is busy with other projects like the DC-10 C-Checks they are doing right now. Usually with a Job shadow they take em for a quick tour and then stuff em in the one hangar where they are doing a Stretch or Air Tanker conversion on a Convair.

We haven't really done 727 C-Checks in YLW for a couple years now. Yes the main bird we normally is 37's. But we do have a bunch of 57's coming in for Winglets right now. We have had some slow downs, but luckily enough we have not had to layoff any mechs, We are actually hiring right now, but that is mainly due to guys moving up to other jobs inside the company.

yeah worked for kf for a few years in yhm, not my type of amo... great company, but not for me, they get in too deep, but that's what they are notorious for! just not for me... flightcraft's always hiring, i'm surprised they had a few lay offs, i'll put out the word, i'm now in quebec alot of guys here in quebec are out of work... aviation's really not doing well in this province
