Several tins of "deep woods" off.
Fishing rod & reel.
wooden matches
leatherman (take it everywhere with you)
Swiss army knife
dry clothes (for when you take your 1st dive off a float)
TV & DVD player (or even VCR depending on where your based, for the lonely nights)
12 cases of kraft dinner
most of all, a great sense of humour and enjoy the hell outta this summer!

Re: gear required
A good book or two.
I'm assuming, from your post, that it is your first summer, so take a camera, and use it. I'm sure that once you get to FL390, you'll look back on your float days with great fondness, aided by your photos.
WRT the leatherman - the original one had really sharp edges that bit into your hand when you used the pliers - not sure if that is still the case. I'm a big fan of the Victorinox 'swiss tool' myself..
HAve fun!

Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Re: gear required
Zip ties and a roll of electrical tape come in very handy when critical parts of your water-rudder assembly snap whilst attempting to park less than a kilometre above a giant man-eating waterfall.

Re: gear required
I carry a number of items with me that have served me well over the years, but none that have bailed me out so perfectly as these two on that day. Safe to say I never leave home without them now.

Re: gear required
+1 to all the above.
I also like to carry my own chunk of rope, 50 feet of good 1/2 inch braided nylon rope as well as a good pair of leather work gloves. Also, A small tacklebox and a telescoping fishing rod to keep in the baggage compartment. Don't forget your IPOD and a VNC, If you get a good set of earbuds for your IPOD they'll double as ear plugs.

Pelican makes a great case for the ipod. I leave my itouch in my flight in the back and listen on my Zulu headset.

Re: gear required
thank to all!!! You're right it is my first season ... do you have a tool box that you bring with you?
Re: gear required
I have one that's always in my truck, but for in the aircraft all I have is my leatherman or if need a tool to remove the seats.inthebush wrote:thank to all!!! You're right it is my first season ... do you have a tool box that you bring with you?
Re: Bush/Float drivers: Flight bag (grocery bag?) contents?
apparently I didn't read the recent post about "gear required" which seems to have some good things in there...Still wondering what people are carrying their junk in, and the a/c they are flying.
Also still wondering about a good multi-tool other than leatherman

Re: gear required
the leatherman is a good tool. but anything will suffice. And I just keep my shit in the baggage compartment or the seat pockets wherever it fits really. IPOD sits in my breast pocket and camera goes in a small pelican case.

The most importent thing to have with you is a deck of cards, then when you are sitting there playing soliteresp some asshole will come up and tell you which move to make , and then yo u are save and sound

Re: gear required
Slats,
I do not think that was an approved repair. The correct thing to have done is make sure you have an AME fly in with proper parts or at least get a field repair approval. I guess that would have meant watching your plane go over the falls, but rules are rules.
nice job.

Re: gear required
I'll try a non-smart-alecy answer for once,
It's been mentioned before, but NEVER forget your leatherman. If there was a quintessential "bush pilot" tool, the leatherman (or equivalent) is it. Every one of the 20+ pilots at my company has one on his belt. I also have one of those great little "Fiskar" axes.
The suggestion to bring some reading material with you is excellent: I once spent 3 days bobbing on a Lake near the Manitoba/NWT border waiting for the fog to go away, out of my mind with boredom after I had built a fire, I had nothing to do but read the POH and the Ops manual. A fistful of zip ties, a roll of that aluminum tape, a change of socks, a reliable flashlight, a cigarette lighter, (if you are flying an AvGas machine, a zippo can't be beat, but I guess a butane lighter is better if you burn Jet).
Think of how much rope you might conceivably need and then double it.
Now, if your 180 can still fly with all that stuff on it, go flying!
