General state of the industry right now.

Post by the14ball »

Hey guys/gals,

I'm just wondering if anyone can give me any insight on the job market for structures guys in Canada right now. I've been contracting in the USA for the better part of the last 2 years but my wife and I want to move back to Canada.

I've have sent my resume to pretty much all the big AMO's that I know of from coast to coast and talked to many of my contacts in the industry but it seems things are pretty slow right now everywhere.

I was hoping to get a permanent full-time position because my wife and I would like to settle in one place and establish a sense of home somewhere. It seems though that many places have either closed their doors or have been laying off guys. I know how this industry is since I've been at it for 16 years and I don't like the swings from boom to bust. I'd hate to pack up all our stuff, move somewhere, only to be laid off 2 months later. I'd rather stay at my consistent contracting job in the US even though my wife and I hate our lifestyle in the desert.

So any info would be great. Cheers! :)

I think things are slowly picking up. Companies were a little reluctant to spend any unnecassary $ after the resession in the U.S., but if anything there seems to be work in structures. You can get a list of all canadian amo's on t.c's site. keep sending them out, and good luck!
What types of aircraft are you experienced in?
