Transport Canada

Post by vangroovy »

Ive been accepted into the Transport Canada CASI hiring pool and am waiting fer some sort of acknowledgement that I exist. The process so far has been a 9 month nightmare of wait....test...wait...test.....wait....test.....wait......interview..............security check.....wait...........and on and on....

Anyone in the ontario region on this website been contacted by a hiring manager? I live in the GTA so if any of the inspectors know anything please give me a hint. So far Ive let a few jobs slip by on the foolish notion that this would happen sooner rather than later...

Any opinions on the actual job itself would be appreciated.

Cheers.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the job is probably a lot like the hiring process.
Just being honest.

Oh, don't ever do that. Not for any government job. The hiring process takes a ridiculous amount of time. I've had family who worked for Corrections Canada, and another who worked for CRA. Each process was similar, a lot of 'hurry up & wait'.

If you're in the job market, take what comes along. If you get the government gig, you can always jump ship.

You'd think they've move quickly on hiring since everytime I talk to one of their offices they give a big speech about how short handed they are. I suspect nothing gets done there in the summer months as they seem to have no concept of staggering holidays (good news for you if you get in there!). They're right at the minimum of 90 days to process a license for the last two years, and its been at least a year and a half to even get them to consider my application to be a pilot examiner. I can only imagine how long it must take for them to actually process a job application.

If you're in the pool and haven't been called yet it probably has more to do with the region's budget process, but could also be that the locations you've indicated you would like to work at are not filling any positions at this point. The long drawn out process is a Federal Government process - not exclusive to Transport. Hang in there I'm sure you'll hear something soon enough, the wheels of public service move very slowly.
