Re: Air Labrador
Good company to work for. I believe they have another twin otter on the way. I would call their head office in YYR. www.airlabrador.com

Re: Air Labrador
+1 ON A GREAT PLACE TO WORK!
-( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Labrador ) gives a quick background on the History of the Airline.
- The Pike Group has recently step down as owners of the company and new ownership has finally taken over. The new owner is a real people person and an awesome individual with a great deal of knowledge and is putting 110% into the company. Ask anyone on the East Coast in the aviation business and they well agree that its for the best.
- Some of the Most experienced and highest time Twin Otter Capt's in the business.
- A relaxed working atmosphere, No pressure from Management on pilot decisions or Management breathing down your neck unless you deserve it!. Plus with an awesome group of employees in every department, it really makes Air Labrador an enjoyable place to work!
- Employee moral is the highest its been in a long time.
- The Beech 1900D is based in Blanc-Sablon Quebec and the crews are based on a 2 week on 2 week off rotation with accommodations provided and airfare provided from YUL,YQB and anywhere in Newfoundland and Labrador.
- No Bonds or Money exchanged for aircraft type ratings.
- First Officers are hired from within the company. Most come from working Dispatch and the last 3 First Officers punched 3-4 months of desk duty before going flight line.
- Lots of flying between Sked,Medevac,Charters and a very busy Summer is in store.
- The Dash 8's have been sold and 1 Beech 1900D has also been removed from the fleet. A King Air 100 has just been added to the fleet and there is a need for another Twin Otter to keep up with all the work.
- A few downsides to the company,
- No interline agreements with any of the major Airlines.
- The Pay scale is behind the times especially with the booming inflation rate in Newfoundland and Labrador, Due to Oil and Mining in the area. The Cost of Living has doubled in the past few years in the Province.
- The advertised pay scale on http://www.airlinepilotcentral.com is incorrect, Add Ten Thousand Dollars to all the salary's that are listed for all aircraft.
- There is a union, But the union is not really geared for an aviation business like ALPA is. There has been no new contract since 2009.
- The benefits and per-deim's are weak. Mostly the effect of a weak union.
- Upgrade times are far and few with the majority of the Capt's being from the area and enjoy working in there home province and spending
every night home.
Hope this information helps. There is a lot of old and incorrect information out there floating around.
Cheers

Re: Air Labrador
I can confirm everything is good there because I know three First Officers there and they love being at home in Newfouldland. Newfies are good good peoples lord knows we give them a hard time but they'd give you the shirt off their back and good for them, to git to work at home instead of going to Ft. MacMurray like the rest of their friends. So to be in their homes and flying a region they loves is what makes them all quite quite happy and ther isnt much movt from the Air Lab guys.

Newfies / Labradoreans are the nicest and most sincere people I have ever met.
The best time of my life was living in Goose Bay flying for Air Labrador. I will never forget it.

Re: Air Labrador
If you get the opportunity to work in Goose on the Twin, take it. Best flying experience out there. Especially if you have a float rating and want to fly floats in the summer.
Not sure what the conditions and benefits are at the moment but 3 or 4 months of dispatch is a small price to pay to land an FO job on the twin! You will then be able to build a rock-solid foundation to you flying career and learn from the best.
Granted, moving to YYR can be somewhat of a scary step. It will be a culture shock if you're from a big city. But it is well worth it.
The new owner will go out of his way to make you feel at home.
Hope this helps

Re: Air Labrador
No different than any other FO salary anywhere else. Its not generally a position that will make you rich, so no point in asking.

Re: Air Labrador
It can actually vary from 5-10k depending of where you are in Canada. For a 30k salary it makes a whole word of difference to me

Re: Air Labrador
If your in a position to be choosy. I have yet to see a low time FO in that fine predicament.
Re: Air Labrador
One must also look at living expenses. You can make 50k living in YVR and you'll be on food stamps. 30K living in Goose Bay for a fresh 200hr first officer is not that bad at all. Living expenses are not that bad, rent is good but groceries are slightly on the higher side. More importantly, Air Labrador is a a safely/professionally run operation, you'll do 1000-1200 hrs eaily in a year if you want to, and the Labradorian people are some if the nicest people on earth I can honestly say.Bronco Billy wrote:It can actually vary from 5-10k depending of where you are in Canada. Just remember, if you don't like it, some douche bag behind in line will do it for 25k
