What's the difference between that and the regular Google?

Google+ is Google's attempt to mimic facebook.
Instead of "Groups" you have "Circles"
Instead of "like" you have "+1"
The home page even looks like facebook.

Isn't facebook enough? what's the point of another time-wasting-social-networking website?

The hangout area is kind of cool where you can chat face to face, but it is sort of like having OOVOO or skype I guess. I don't know if it will catch on but I will keep trying it for a bit and see what happens.

The major difference is that Circles allow you to publish posts selectively. You can add your boss or parents to a separate circles which will never see some posts. For example, pictures of your junk you took while you were drunk.

I don't think they're trying to replace Facebook, per se. It will, but that's besides the point. I think their goal is to be your home base for everything internety. Functionally it can replace Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, your blog, Skype, etc. They already plan on incorporating Gmail, maps, Youtube and their other services into this so if you use those products you'll end up using this too.

Anyways, I've had some fun creating an Aviators circle, and if you want to connect on there DM me your G+ user name.

Haven't tried it yet but I think google may have finally solved one of the key pitfalls of the social network site. I've noticed that once a social networking site reaches critical mass, it's the beginning of the end.

In the beginning, you are adding people you WANT to be in contact with. Over time, people you do NOT want to be in regular contact with add you and your interest and participation in the medium drops off. ICQ, Myspace, etc.

You can do that in facebook too, although maybe not as streamlined as Google+.
