Sunwing junior hire info

Post by Wheels »

Can someone from Sunwing please answer a few questions concerning life as a junior F.O. at Sunwing

What's life like on a reserve block at SW? How long until you can hold a full block?
Do you make much more than the base salary in OT and such?
How much per month in per-diems?
Estimated upgrade time
Is there a training bond or signing bonus for type rated guys?
Are you forced to deploy each summer season? For how long? Which base?
Is there a point at SW where you have enough seniority to be able to hold a summer position in Canada?

Are you generally happy at SW?

Feel free to PM me as well

Thanks,

Wheels

Wheels,

What's life like on a reserve block at SW? How long until you can hold a full block? No Reserve system, full block right away.
Do you make much more than the base salary in OT and such? possibly 30% more
How much per month in per-diems? depends, lots of day turns. Hard to say. 3-7 day pairings do exists.
Estimated upgrade time ????? 3 months to 10 years....
Is there a training bond or signing bonus for type rated guys? Currently YES bond, type rated $15,000 signing bonus.
Are you forced to deploy each summer season? For how long? Which base? Any base in Europe via bid system, current max is 60 days
Is there a point at SW where you have enough seniority to be able to hold a summer position in Canada? possible, but I would count on having to deploy for at least the next few years.

Are you generally happy at SW? Yes

Not a huge amount of detail, but I hope that helps.

Ditto

Happiness is a subjective thing. If it works for you....you will be very happy. It does work for me.
If it does not work for you....could be trying....especially if you have small children or a spouse at home who are not so keen to see you in Europe in the summer and unable to join you for whatever reasons or do not like you on long pairings in the winter. So it's more of a personal choice based on personal preferences as well as personal circumstances.

Wheels historically the FO bid for overseas deployment goes senior, but it is a bid based on seniority. This year was very different because we're short FO's and Sunwing added a bunch more work in the UK and Europe.

Good luck

Pretty much as above. ...

Dont worry buddy, good attitude and hard work will go a long way. ...

If you are between 20 and 30 - you are gonna love it,
If you are between 30 and 40 - you are gonna enjoy it,
If you are between 40 and 50 - you are gonna be ok.

Congrats on your course date!

We (guys from the 8th April Class) just finished our PPCs in Miami and Atlanta and line indoc starts NOW! The majority of the guys are doing their line indoc in Europe, but there are some of us doing it here in Canada.

Looking forward to running into you guys in YYZ.

PS The best thing I did during training was to stop reading avcanada (till now I guess).

For the June 10th course.

Are you guys type rated on the 737 and if so are they still awarding the signing bonus.

Thanks

Air Transat is going to hire some new 737NG pilots for the summer season. That being said, its highly unlikly that Sunwing will take the risk of laying off anyone that same summer. If Sunwing is going to hire and train you, take the plunge. I'd say you're close to being garanteed a full time job. The company is still in expansion mode.

Anyone care to share roughly how much time and what kind of experience people are getting hired there with?

There hasn't been layoffs at sunwing yet, but in the future who knows.

As for experience anywhere from 3000-20,000 hrs. I believe the hiring fished for this season a few months ago.
