$3000 'training agreement' that must be signed as part of the employment agreement. Lasts for 12 months.

Why have I seen so many ''stay away'' warning signs? Whats up with this joint?

Not having any personal knowledge, I'd imagine it's one of the following: Low pay, sweatshop hours, poor treatment, or a combination thereof..

Is this "standard procedure" a good thing? Is it the right answer? Just because it's happening doesn't make it right. Slavery wasn't right, inequality isn't right. So why did people accept such things at the time?

If you don't want the prescribed conditions, don't apply. If you feel like accepting and embracing what the company believes you deserve (hours, pay, treatment) and you also believe that's your worth, then accept the job. If not, don't. It's as simple as that.

North Shore is correct, except pay at AB is actually reasonable.

Regardless, Stay Away! Personal experience and a lot of it, this company is not worth your time at any stage of your career. It was a bad place to work and from the mouth of current employees its just getting worse. Lots of issues but it all comes down to safety and quality of life.

I have known several pilots who left the company to work for less pay somewhere else so skip a step and seek out the many great operators to build your career at. Maybe we can dry up the pool for this operator and improve our industry.

Fly safe.

The turnover there is like hot cakes, and I think a handful are taking pay cuts at new jobs. Pay is not everything...
