Re: Hypermiling and Gas saving Tips
This scan came out of the same shop manual and shows how to trouble shoot a rough running engine on deceleration. Notice that it suggests the problem could be from a fuel injection control malfunction due to the fuel cut control. Also notice that they have the technician check that the injector stop...

Re: Hypermiling and Gas saving Tips
Here are the conditions for engine operation out of a 1995 Mazda MX5 shop manual. You will notice that the fuel injectors go to "fuel cut" under decelleration.

Re: Hypermiling and Gas saving Tips
I haven't found a credible reference to quote, but I understand that fuel injection cut on the overrun is a requirement of OBD regulations which have been around since the late 80's.Pat Richard wrote:My 1998 3 series does this also. Not sure which car he figures doesnt do this.

Re: Hypermiling and Gas saving Tips
This one is wrong. A modern fuel injected car with a standard transmission will not inject any fuel into the engine when you lift off the gas while coasting in gear. The drivetrain continues to turn the engine over, but there is no fuel going in. If you were to shift to neutral then it would start ...

Re: Hypermiling and Gas saving Tips
1) Instead of just coasting to a red light (especially when going down a hill) -- turn your ignition off...let inertia glide you there. Theory -- when coasting (with foot off accelerator) -- your engine still "idles" and uses up gas...so turn off the engine and use the built up inertia. If you are ...

Re: Failed to Report on Final?
Well, we had some issues here with Center releasing us from their frequency very last minute and we only have 1 VHF radio, so it makes it really hard to make that 5 minutes call. Some people got their ticket violated recently because of that. Any tricks on how to do it? When you are 10 or 15 minute...

Re: ATPL and jobs
Hi, Also, for medevac operations (King air or MU-2), can I become a PIC without my ATPL? Do Medevac companies hire copilots with just the 200hrs? Thanks In Ontario, one of the requirements to be captain is an ATPL for medevac. There are companies that will take people with no ATPL for charter thoug...

Re: Oakley Juliets
I've been using a pair of Oakley Whiskers for about two years now. Love them!! The way that the frames curve inward by the temple is perfect for my headset.
I found the Juliettes to be too small looking when I tried them on. In that price range, I wouldn't buy without trying first.

My sat phone only works on sunny days and even then you have to invest at least 15min to get it to connect. The calls usually get dropped half way through.small penguin wrote:satellite phone then, whatever.

Re: Approach Ban
I'm not a big fan of the approach ban. One airport that I operate from regularly has weather reported by an AUTO station. This weather station is horribly out to lunch on reporting of visibilities. There have been many occasions this winter where it is reporting 1/2 mile vis and we have the field in...

Looking for some more details on this posting... Where do they base the King Air?? I gather from this thread that it does not fly too much, true?? What kind of flying and schedule could one expect to have?? What do they use the King Air for, is it mostly for moving personnel during fire season, or s...

If you are buying new then one consideration is that a lot of manufacturers will not honour warrenties if you buy in the USA and then export to Canada. If that is not a concern for you then see http://www.riv.ca for all the info on importing a vehicle into Canada. If the vehicle that you want is on ...

Can't say i'm totally sure about all the king airs, but in order to get fuel from the aux tanks you need flow from the main tanks.. so if you're silly and burn all your main fuel first you go down with 2 bombs in your...

So I landed my first flying job! Congrats man. Now, not to burst your bubble or anything, but that is not a job. A job is something that you get paid to do so that you can afford to live without relying on the generosity of others. Your job will be what you do to earn money. Why do people continue ...

Most of the aircraft you guys keep pointing fingers at, are operated by a two pilot crew because that's what the customer wants! Last time I checked, the parcels in the back of the "bag run" machines were not asking for two drivers? I was working for an air ambulance operator. The client required u...

I don't think that it is bullshit. I might be biased though. I flew in the right seat of a Caravan for about 7 months as FO, logged about 700 hours. Could the company have done it without me?? Yes, except that our client required us to operate with two crew, so really no. What was I doing while flyi...
