Relief Pilot hour logging
Dear all,
My friend started a 777 RP job this year and we would like to understand exactly how to log flight hours. Do you consider the all flight-time ?
Thanks.

I wouldn't log it. It's not recognized by anyone as flight time. It's your log book though and you can put anything you want in it.
Re: Relief Pilot hour logging
How about when CA in the bunk? Does he log time when he's sleeping? Or the FO. They are not flying when sleeping. But they still do. Therefore, I believe you still log your time at least when RP on seat during cruise. What's the difference between FO/CA on seat and RP on the seat?

Log 66.6% for 3 crew. Log 50% for 4 crew.
That's how they did it during your Indoc. So continue that.

Well, don't they have a ppc on type.. wich the RP doesn't ?smooth wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 3:46 pm How about when CA in the bunk? Does he log time when he's sleeping? Or the FO. Re: Relief Pilot hour logging
Yes they do, it says 777CRP 787CRP 330CRP. It's a type rating restricted for cruise only.

Yes they do, it says 777CRP 787CRP 330CRP on their booklet. It's a type rating restricted for cruise only. RP go through the same training as FO. Plus the left seat emergency during cruise.

The reason I know RP and FO go through the same IPT/SIM training, because I’m looking at the training script right now

Re: Relief Pilot hour logging
If you’re not involved in the takeoff or landing of the flight, don’t see why you should log any of it, but if you’re at AC why do you care? If you’re interested in going to the US or overseas? Yes I would care because they won’t view it as legitimate time on type.

What Korean Air CRM school did you attend?Inverted2 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 3:33 pm If you’re not involved in the takeoff or landing of the flight, don’t see why you should log any of it, but if you’re at AC why do you care? All pilots in the flight deck are involved in the takeoff & landing
Yikes!!

Line indoc is part of training under the CARs. If an RP is not taking off and landing a real airplane they haven't completed the same training as an FO.smooth wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 9:29 amThey do the same IPT and SIM. But obviously not takeoff and landing part during IOE. You’re right, It used to be different course, RP used to go through a much quicker and shorter course. Many RP rushing through and had to book IPT/SIM in their spare time. So when MS came in he changed that to what we have now

Is there such thing as an “non-real” airplane? I guess you probably shouldn’t log VATSIM flight sim FSX hours.Victory wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 6:53 pmLine indoc is part of training under the CARs. Re: Relief Pilot hour logging
If you have the option, get a full type rating and start logging widebody FO time right now. Given the current job market and what could happen if more real airlines start hiring Canadian FOs you don't want to be fighting for the time later. The RP type rating is the equivalent of a training bond and everyone is going to want out of it at once if that happens.
Because that airline, that airline is NOT real.
