Re: Tool Thief

6th drawer of my tool is where Betsy and Bertha live. Start smashing hands and you wont have any problems. If the company dosent have any problem with people stealing tools, then they should have no problems with an accidental slip of the hammer. Funny how my tools always eem to find their way home....

Re: Peninsulair locked out at CYHM by Tradeport!

My sympathies to Peninsular's situation. At the same time I must ask why Stoney Creek airport wouldn't be a feasible alternative? I worked at that airport for a while and always figured it would be a great place for general aviation. Business oppurtunites are there. Ex: there is no dedicated restaur...

Re: Appreniceship/training

There are a few factors to consider when your looking at career training. Obligations- kids, mortgage, etc ICS is not for everyone. But if you have all of the obligations mentioned above, or/are changing careers, or are supplimenting an existing trade, its not a bad way to go. Yes the appreticeship ...

cardio

if you are hitting the gym 5 days a week and not doing any cardio, then you are not doing yourself a lot of good. You should split your workouts. Do a quick, say 5 min, cardio warm up. A quick-paced walk on a treadmill or elliptical. Then do your weights. One day, to upper body, then next do lower, ...

I can't speak for anyone else, But I do enjoy maintaing aircraft for a living. I work for an AMO and pretty well everything we work on is corporate aircraft. I have had my days when I thought to myself I should have done something else. However I still like going to work. I make a decent living for ...

revenue canada

1 more tid bit about your apprentiship. You as an apprentice are entitled to write off any tools you buy up to $10,000 CAD TOTAL DURING your apprentiship. I don't remember which revenue canada form you need to fill out to make you claim, but you CAN LEGALLY write off you tools. Your employer will ha...

Capacity check?

Is this a lead acid battery or nicad? Has the battery had a capacity check done it lately? Troubleshot was on the right track with his post about battery replacement. Lead acid batteries do not like being run way down and the recharged. Nicad batteries do like being run down. What did the battery lo...

I finished ICS

ICS does not get you ANY accredited time. Theory only. Which means 4 years apprentiship. I went the ICS way. I also spent 4 years as an apprentice swinging wrenches. I found it a great way of learning. The extra time on the floor before I attained my AME licence I feel makes me a better engineer tha...

Don't become an AME

If you are looking at retraining yourself, and have "excellent mechanical skills", I suggest training to become a plumber or electrician. The starting wages in these trades is 40% of the journeymen rate. As much as I enjoy maintaining aircraft, I am considering retraining. I make a good wage, howeve...

Buying an endorsement?

I am suprised to find that there are AME's out in the workforce who are considering paying for their own endorsement courses. Are we starting to head down the road of buying a job? I have no problems with an employer training someone and asking them to sign on for a commitment time of 2 years. But t...

No Offense.

Don't take it so personally, but what the author of the article wrote, did have some merit. The point of the article is not about pilot skill levels, its about TERRORISTS. "Flight Simulator" and competing programs have become so authentic in recent years, in fact, that they are turning into useful t...

Let a little bird start chirping.

IMHO, as an aircraft mechanic, soon to be engineer, I find myself reading this thread with dismay. I would let a little bird start chirping about this guys doctored time. How comfortable would you be if an unqualified person was maintaining your aircraft? What if said mechanic doctored up his logboo...

tools and courses

I dont see companies buying tools for their AME's any time soon. Perhaps thats why AME apprentices can now write off there tool purchases on their tax return. As for courses, I recently went through a training course, at no cost to me, however, if I leave the company before I have completed 2 years ...

Stupid passengers?

I am amazed by some of the responses on this thread. The pax are not at fault here. Did they get screwed going for the cheapest price?, sure they did. Did they suspect the fares were too cheap? yes again. However, most of these families taking vactions are overtaxed and are simply trying to stretch ...

Some companies are/have implemented foam cutouts or shadow boards(for shop tools) as a form of tool control. I personnally have the original plastic trays from my screwdriver sets to keep them organized. All of my sockets are on socket rails. All of my wrenches are in holders. As for pliers and such...

Dudester, this topic will have a wide range of opinions, as you can see. IMHO pe paitent with your money. Tools are not cheap, as you are well aware. The way the log book/ 70% task requirment was explained to me, When you submit your log book, your inspector will compare what you have signed off versus what your AMO in certified to do. IE: if your AMO is certified to maintain Falcon 10, Cessna Conquest, Eurocopter AS355, and a Piper Navajo, then ...

Need some help with AME exams

Hi everyone. I'm starting to write my AME exams. I have found the TC study guide isn't very good. Can anyone suggest some better study guides?
I have the Jeppeson Text Books, but what I would like to know, is what do I really need to study?
Thanx in advance. Nick
