Re: new Classic Airline

Classic Airlines is already operating and has been for years. Anytime you see a Dash 8-100 or -300, that's Classic Airlines.

Re: Question for Q drivers

Another "money-saving protocol" from the company.

I can't figure out how they went from "two-engine" taxi right into "one-engine-shutdown" taxi where before they wouldn't even do "one-prop-feathered" taxi like we do on the Classic.

Re: Bifocals

I've worn glasses/contacts for years but when I hit 40 (13 years ago), the need for reading glasses arose. I gave up the contacts and went with bifocals. Better but the instrument panel of the Dash 8 I fly was just out of focus. I switched to progressives and although it took some getting used to, t...

Re: Saskatoon overrun?

FWIW, the Q400 came to a stop off taxiway F. A friend sent me photos taken by the media of the aircraft. It clearly shows the signage for taxiway F. I see no reason to doubt the CADORS is correct as to landing runway as it would make no sense to land on 27 and execute a full back-track.....unless al...

Re: Question for Q drivers

Did Bombardier redesign the PTU for use on the -400?

Reason I ask is, on the -100/-300, the sole purpose of the PTU is allow raising and lowering the landing gear should the #2 engine fail. It does not power the #2 hydraulic system.

Re: Question for Q drivers

Single-engine taxi and "one-feathered" are two different things.

I don't know of any operator who taxi's with a Dash engine shut down.

I suspected it was a torque issue with the 400.

Thanks for the info.

Re: Question for Q drivers

The OFP states the planned taxi burn but what do you guys actually see on the gauges with the props at min rpm?

The -300 typically shows ~300/hr at min and ~150/hr in feather. The -100's were a bit less than that, IIRC.

What's the deal with the "one-in-feather" taxi on the -400?

Re: Question for Q drivers

Another question for the Q drivers: is it SOP not to taxi with one engine in feather like we do on the classic or is it a limitation imposed by Bombardier?

What fuel burns do you have during taxi?

Re: Getting a Q400 to the Paris Air Show

Guess there's no bladder tanks available for the Q400. First Dash 8-300 I ever saw was on the ramp at World Wide Aircraft Ferrying at YYZ. It was being prepared for its new owner in Australia. Bladder tanks in the cabin were giving it a range of ~10 hours. Flight plan was taking them to the New York...

Re: Aircraft down yesterday from Buttonvile

"Firefighters used a borrowed snowmobile to access the single-engine 1976 Piper Cub, which could be seen at the crest of a rolling hill, to ensure there was no fuel leakage or other hazards."

Aircraft downgraded to a Cub by the media. That changes everything. Good grief....

Golden Horseshoe Aviation CYHM

http://flygha.com/about Curious about this company. I didn't think there was any training companies left after Peninsulair closed it's doors. Anyone know who's running the place? I worked at Peninsulair in the late 80's and then at Aero Futures for a while early 90's. Now flying Jazz Dash8 Classics ...

Just checked out the registration C-GCVL on the TC site for curiousity's sake.

A Hughes 269C has had that registration since 1983. Wonder if the movie producers had to pay royalties?

Re: Name for the WestJet Q 400 Operation

My money's on "WestJet". Keep it simple, that's what their clientele is used to seeing.

They'll have enough to deal with when they have to walk outside in all kinds of weather just to get to their aircraft. That'll mess 'em up!

How will you know if it's the job for you or not if you don't do the interview? That where questions are asked and answered, both by the company to you and vice versa. You've got nothing to lose. Better to do the interview and then decide rather than not do it and always wonder what might have been....
