I was back in the air a day or two after my operation. Its just a simple operation with local anesthetic used. The toughest part was cramming my ass into a Cessna while I was still sore. My roommate at the hospital was an AC pilot and he too was back on the job in no time.

Thanks for all the responses. Of course, I would use common sense in selecting my alternate; but my intent here was simply to clarify the rule, to gauge the varying interpretations of it, and to have an adult discussion about it. Personally, I'd be leaning toward having both the ceiling and vis be a...

Thank you to all those that replied. I was away and unable to reply sooner. Ok... obviously there is no Tom. A couple of things: I'm not the only FO that has had a problem with said dickhead. Almost without exception every FO that has flown with him thinks he's a prick. I was just the lucky guy to g...

Personality conflict in the cockpit

How do you deal with personality conflicts in the cockpit? Have you ever had to fly with a captain who was a real a$$#ole? How did you deal with it? Let's just say I have a "friend" who's had the pleasure of flying with such a person in the very recent past. Lets call my friend Tom. His captain is a...

One for the renters out there

Renting airplanes is a lot like renting sex:

-difficult to arrange on short notice
-Saturdays are very busy
-the fun ones always cost more
-someone's always looking at their watch

Hard Landing

A commercial airline pilot said that on a particular flight he had hammered his ship into the runway really hard. The airline had a policy which required the first officer to stand at the door while the passengers exited, give a smile, and say "Thanks for flying our airline." He said that in light ...

Grace L Ferguson Airline (& Storm Door Company)

Anybody ever hear this skit by Bob Newhart? It's hilarious. I laugh my head off whenever I hear it. The transcript, does it no justice, but I'll post it below just the same. Enjoy: I was watching television and it was a John Wayne war movie, I guess they are all John Wayne war movies. Did you ...

How do you unwind on your downtime?

Just wondering what do you do for fun/relaxation on your downtime? What are your hobbies? I work two jobs, so right now I'm spread pretty thin. Don't get much down time to speak of and it seems when I do I've forgotten how to relax. If I had more time I'd like to take up Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and beco...

By definition the visual approach is only in a radar environment. Yet I fly into more than one airport on a regular basis that are below radar coverage. When IFR in VMC, centre always clears us for a visual! I'm not sure if this is an oversight on their part. As a matter of fact, earlier this week w...

Ok you actually want to know if it's ok and legal to go against the published flow of traffic to make your life easier ? .... That doesn't make sense. At an uncontrolled (non-MF) airport, how would you even know if there was VFR traffic? The rules are simple. If the weather permits joining a standard VFR circuit, then you should do so. I never said it was non-MF, just uncontrolled. Just the same I do agree that joini...
