Re: private compared to commercial operators
And for the most part, private organisations pay much better too. These companies are willing to compensate to keep well trained pilots. And although we fly under CARs 604, my training has been more extensive then I ever received as a 704 captain. But like bezerker said, we dont have to make money e...

Re: >12,566 Multi Turbine SIC or PC12 PIC
I think this one comes down to a comparison of the type of operation you are going to work for and what YOU want to do. I turned down a right seat on a Tier 3, multi-turbine cojo for left seat PC12. Within two years I was fortunate enough to go from left seat PC12 to Left seat med size corporate jet...

Re: Confed AFM Questions
Hey guys I am sure many of you will find Confed, as I did, an experience of a lifetime. Having never left southern ontario, it was certainly an adventure, for me anyways. I think most of your questions have been answered. As long as you can find the happy medium between having fun and hitting the bo...

Re: iPods on the flightdeck
I found my ipod helped keep me awake on those long medevac flights up north. So now, I dont see the issue listening to them at 450 with long cruises as long as the pax dont see them. Half the f/o's I fly with listen to them, the other half dont. We have a rule against non company reading material in...

Re: 1500 TT King Air Right Seat?
Contrails does not apply to AirSprint. We do however, have a cockpit requirement of 3000 hrs on both the Jets and PC12, hence the 1200 TT requirement for right seat

Sorry Lyncher, but you had better check your facts. I worked up north on the PC12 for one of those companies previously mentioned and now work at Sprint. And if you think I am of a biased opinion, you could ask one of my 7 co-workers who left within 6 months of the same company to come to Sprint. We...

I agree with Snowgoose. I'd take the PC12 any day over a clapped out King AIr or Navajo anyday. I've left YMO 10 mins behind a 100 and landed 25 mins ahead of them in Kingston. I also got paid more to manage one engine then both guys combined in the King Air with 2. Say what you will bout single eng...

It's a great idea cat, and it'a a great way to get started. In the long run, it is way cheaper than any 50 hour bush course (@ cost/hr)...assuming nothing (expensive) breaks on the aircraft. Trust me... i know. After the insurance man said that they "couldnt sign me off with my kinda time (400 hrs w...

ok... so here is my question.... Does this mean that someone with 500 hrs on a 185 cant fly a beaver? or someone with 500 hrs of cub time.... now has to spend 100 hours flying cargo before he can carry pax on a 185? For some operations... 100 hrs of cargo could be two summer's worth. how can anyone ...

Insurance Requirements
Just wondering if anyone has heard what is going to happen with insurance requirements for this upcoming season? Is it gonna be easier than last summer? Worse or the same? It seems like the standard to be 250 hrs on floats for 180/185 and at least 500 hrs on floats for Dhc2. Have any CP's/pilots hea...

was just checking out the CRA website... if u don't have any receipts, then you can claim anywhere from $0.43 to $0.51 a km depending on what province you live in. That is if your move is greater than 40 km. was just wonderin for seasonally employed guys if you can claim moving expenses both ways or...

I must admit the low blow was deserved..... just trying to have a little not so innocent fun. No offence was intended. But i'm assuming you didn't get started in this industry with 2500 hrs and at one point in your career you probably had 700 hrs as well. Odds r you were a smartass yourself. Then ag...

I know how frustrating it is to be to work on the dock and spinning out airplanes that you wonder if you will ever get the chance to fly. The sad part of this situation is that it was the insurance company who said no. First they told me that if i had 250 hrs on floats i would be good to go. So, eve...

i would take the $10 000 and put a down payment on a champ or cub on floats. Put on a couple hundred hours and then turn around and sell it for the same amount you paid for it. That is how i beat the insurance. That is about the only way you will be able to get a float job these days the way insuran...
