Re: item
Glad you enjoyed your flights. An 0645 departure, you may have sampled the crews special double brew. One coffee pouch in the basket, another in the pot. I could be sent for reprogramming for sharing that little secret, so if you request it on a future flight, best to whisper it in your FA's ear. A...

Re: Downburst vs Tornado
Rear flank downdraft (RFD) can also cause microburst-like conditions, although its formation is much different from a "classic" microburst. The result is the same, although they tend to almost always be 'wet'. Also, when interpreting your radar, be wary of echos like this one: http://1.bp.blogspot.c...

Don't forget the ~200 pound weight difference between the old steam gauges/radios and the Garmin. 200 more pounds of freight on every northbound leg.

Re: Website for winds
http://www.twisterdata.com/ This is a data aggregation site for 3 different models (NAM, GFS and the NOAA Rapid Refresh models), developed mostly for the severe weather community but has obvious value to aviation as well. (not all) GFS model runs go out to 384hrs (17 days). Winds aloft are given for...

Re: AC E170 CADORS in NY
I would like to know what "approach mode" was selected. From a 737NG point of view the only approach mode we have is for an ILS. RNAV would be flown in LNAV/VNAV. Our trap is VNAV PATH not engaging and the airplane just descends on speed to the set altitude in the MCP. Any insightful info from driv...

Re: Zee closed
This is the nature of the business in MB. FA is not alone in this behaviour, SNA, Perimeter, Keystone, they have ALL treat pilots this way to keep themselves in business they will scapegoat the pilot every single time. Don't expect this to EVER change there, the owners are unscrupulous and don't ca...

I'm sure TC wouldn't like that, so don't do it.
Looks safe.

Re: Air Canada halts overnight stays in downtown Winnipeg
Hava java, that's completely incorrect. Air Canada has officially stated that it was certainly not based on financial issues. it's the Air Canada pilot's union and the mayor of Winnipeg that are trying to sell the idea that the decision is financially motivated. We need to keep in mind that Air Can...

Sim trick: Transponder code with an 8 in it.
People will rotate the dial uselessly for up to 30 seconds before asking aloud, "Where the **** is the 8?!"

I will always record info on my climb out/decent into a busier uncontrolled airport in the northern parts. Flying into airports where the nearest reporting station is miles and miles away, you never know what to expect. I appreciate knowing. So I figure others probably do as well. In IMC conditions...

Re: Submitting a PIREP
Flying IFR, I will normally give a pirep on departure with base of cloud, top of clouds, icing and turbulence encoutered. Just gives the following guys SA on what to expect and adapt as required. +1. Especially if you're the first guy out of any given place in the morning. Doubly especially if it's...

Re: Time of year for weather radar..
LJLJ is Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Situated next to a mountain range, of course.
I'd guess that at least some of those are ground returns from the rocks...no?
(the ground speed seems to suggest that he's at cruise though, and with only a -1.5 degree tilt down...that could very well be weather)

I'm using this thread as the prime example to show non-aviation types when they ask me "Don't you have to be great at math to be a pilot?" Well, you will only look the fool doing it. Do some research, mathematicians are debating this and come up with two different answers. To suggest one...

It's a "right now" thing...decision must be made by today.North Shore wrote:If your goal is airline, then go for the 705 time, imho. Is it a right-now choice, or do you have the luxury of waiting a few months until you are >1000MPIC?

Not on a bond right now.
AC is the ultimate goal (or WS, no real allegiance here).
I'm just wondering if 700 vs 1000 MPIC would make a huge difference to any of the "large" companies out there.

Long time lurker, first time poster. Need an opinion, though. PIC on a >12,500 pound turboprop (might just take me a few more months to get there, though) OR F/O on a larger turboprop (705 time)? (currently left seat on a <12,500 pound turboprop, with 700 MPIC) I've heard both sides of the coin on t...
